Army Master Arquado Anas (a.k.a. Barbarossa)

This redheaded and red-bearded man from the upper Berinus was one of the most formidable military leaders of his time. He was the man behind the Berini campaigns in the East Hu-Balai and the North Yamuhi Steppe. He died during the Berlintini I's Great War of Coalition and was replaced by the less talented Falbi Sholo. At times of peace, Arquado is quite the scholar to talk to and he's pretty cool.

Early life

Arquado was born to a trader who traveled throughout the Berini Empire and traded with different people. This trader learned how to speak a large variety of languages and dialects to make business easier. Arquado traveled with his father a lot and inherited and showed the talent of being able to learn languages easily at an early age. He was fascinated with all the different people, cultures and languages his father took him to and had a natural desire to to read and learn. At the age of 10, he found an old war treatise written in an upper dialect of Berinus Fren-Chital in a library in a town he had stopped by with his father. He was completely fascinated and hypnotized by the subject and he zipped through the treatise in a matter of hours. He searched for more treatises and he read them all before he had to leave. He made it a habit to stop in the local library at every place he stopped at (if there was one) when going with his father and two of his brothers on a business trip. The high literacy rate in the Berini Empire at the time (~70%) meant that libraries weren't very hard to find. His intelligence, curiosity and thirst for knowledge led him to become one of the brightest and most educated of young men. He was asked questions on a rare occasions because of this. But more than that because he was young and people didn't feel too happy asking a young hotshot who lacked the experience of a 30 year old man.

Education

Advanced military training, diplomatic education, court etiquette, horse riding, reading and writing in several languages, survival training, intelligence and couter-intelligence training as well as history. He is a very educated man who read a lot in his early days. In the army he learned various skills like repairing maille, shoes and clothes as well as weapons and armor maintenance and basic cooking.

Employment

At the age of 17 he was drafted to the Berini army for 6 months. In these 6 months his potential, self taught military education and talent were seen and noted and his conscription period was extended to 25 years like many many conscripts who were seen to have potential in the army. That is how the Berini were able to pick the best soldiers they could get (by "sifting" through the huge population to find people with the traits they desired) and build with them a disciplined veteran army corps. Arquado served as a soldier for many years and he climbed through the ranks until he reached the rank of Army Master at a relatively young age.

Successfully conquered the Western Horde.

Conquered Bashur and managed to keep the Berini on the winning side of Berlintini I's Great War of Coalition and when they started losing it was slow and gradual.

Bested armies that were either faster or technologically ahead of his.

History

They didn't really interact during the reign of Do-Yu Ashawa. During the reign of Yu-Mai Ashawa before Berlintini I's Great War of Coalition, they had a decent relationship because Arquado was a learning nut and with endless curiosity. This relationship manefested itself with Arquado would visiting Bashur and taking notes about it's history, culture and architechture to add to his personal library. Of course, she hid a very great deal of things from him for security reasons, it didn't prevent him from conquering the kingdom. When the war started, Yu-Mai Ashawa felt a bit betrayed as the very smart and intelligent Arquado utilized the info he had of Bashur (like how it won wars in the past and the layout of the city) to conquer the city. Throughout the war they wished each other dead but had a great deal of respect for each other. He admired he unbreaking and self-reviving spirit that made sure she always had a way out and was never down for very long. She admired his extreme skill, intelligence and tactical genius. When she heard of his death she said that he was a truly strong and smart adversary who was to be feared when at war with, and a geek at times of peace.

Relationship Reasoning

They had a lot of respect for each other and saw in each other qualities they admired. Yu-Mai Ashawa was extremely clever and would always bounce back up even during the hardest of times. Arquado had the curiosity and joy of a little boy when it came to learning anything new and he was also a master strategist and tactician who was always playing his cards well and outclassed his peers. They were both very skilled in politics and deception of which she became the one the most superior one of the two in this field. People always found it puzzling that she loathed her uncle as much as one could imagine and still respected Arquado. Perhaps because she was very much like her uncle and only similar to Arquado.

They were both very interested in adding to their skills and knowledge as well as a very strong sense of duty. They Both became very skilled and competent practitioners in the ways of war. They both hated Eldanfan the Outcast as he was a very unpleasant person (he was very rude and in-your-face). This is the reason why Arquado deliberately broke his spirit and why neither of them were really bothered by his death.
