Herbs, Fungi, and other Alchemical Reagents in the Godless Realm

Many are the strange plants, fungi, and animals one can find in the Godless Realm. But not all of them have the properties sought by druids and alchemists... I know of several that grow here in The Cloud Fields. I am happy to share that knowledge in exchange for something equally valuable and precious to you.

Alchemical Reagents

Alix tree

Alix trees are unmistakable with their wide trunks and twisted short branches. The largest trees are said to be as old as the plane's existence. The tree can slso be found in a few locations in the material plane. Alix trees flower only during eclipses, and only for as long as the eclipse lasts.

The nectar of alix trees is a valuable liquid base for alchemical remedies.

Weeping eucalyptus

Fire oil is obtained from the weeping eucalyptus. This species of tree drips an oily substance that is highly flammable. The best way to collect it is to place several fire-proof containers under the canopy and return in a few hours.

Fire Oil

The oil is a valuable base for alchemical weapons, particularly bombs, and certain drugs.

Giant sundew

A lovely light green slender plant that can reach several feet of height. Its flowers are often light pink to white coloured. The tendrils it uses to capture prey are very valued by alchemists, as their ashes retain some of the antimagic properties of the sundew.

Sundew tinder

Dried greyish sticks which normally produce a weird tingle in casters' hands. Its ashes are useful in catalysts, and items that interfere with magic.

Herbs

Nymph's cloth

A fine moss, often found adorning the branches of tall trees. It is said nymphs use this moss to craft their impossibly delicate dresses.

Nymph's braid

Brown and grey filaments adorn the branches of trees, forming curtains in the wild.
Gather DC 19; Yield 1d6 doses
Terrain swamps or forests
Preparation Each dose of nymph's cloth must be dried in the sunlight for three days, careful not to expose it to the moon's shine. Once dried, the moss' fibres must braided. This requires a successful DC 19 Sleight of Hand check and 3 minutes of work per dose. On a failure by 5 or more, the leaves become torn and ruined. Once woven, the braid must be lightly coated in alchemical oil to preserve it.
Use Anyone carrying a nymph's braid visibly on their person gains a +3 alchemical bonus on Charisma skill checks.

Wetland coral

A rare coral found in the wetlands of the cloud fields. It has a bright yellow colouration during the day, and a deep silver colour during the eclipse hours.

Coral Chalk

The lime coloured chalk pieces that result from the processed coral are a boon to rune casters.
Gather DC 17; Yield 1 dose
Terrain fresh underwater
Preparation The coral piece must be burnt with magical fire until its exterior is blackened with a successful Craft (Alchemy) DC 20. Afterwards, the coral is pulverized and mixed with water from the same area as the place where the wetland coral was living and shaped into the desired shape. Once dried, the chalk can be used to write.
Use Runes and glyphs that use coral chalk as its material component for writing increase the effective caster level by 2.

Mimih's bane

A relatively fast-growing lichen. This lichen grows only on rocks, and where it grows, it dyes the rocks a deep maroon colour. After the lichen's dye has been in place for a while, the rock starts dissolving, slowly but surely.
In other continents it is known as "rock's embrace" or "earth's veins".

Earth's dust

A light grey shrubby lichen spreads in the crevices of rocks. Through the lichen, a deep red discolouration in the rock is visible.
Gather DC 13; Yield 1d4 doses
Terrain plains or mountains
Preparation A decotion of the lichen must be made by steeping the lichen in warm water for one night with frequenty stirring. This requires a successful DC 12 Craft (alchemy) check and 8 hours of work.
Use Pouring this liquid onto a rock reduces its hardness by 3.

Fool's lily

A thirteened petal flower. The flower is a dark speckled green and has an sweet and fruity smell. Their tubers are very large, and considered a delicacy by moles in this plane.

Hot tubers

A very large orange tuber with an ovaloid shape.
Gather DC 18; Yield 1d4 doses
Terrain plains
Preparation The tuber must be slowly roasted, buried in the hot coals of a fire that is no longer active. The tuber's white flesh turns orange when properly cooked, red when not properly cooked. A successful DC 15 Survival check means the tuber was properly roasted, failure by 5 or less means that the tuber's flesh turns red. Tubers must be preserved in a jar of oil until their use. When eaten, an orange tuber causes a creature to gain a +3 morale bonus on weather effects. If eaten, a red tuber provides a +2 morale bonus on weather effects, but it also causes the eater to become extremely sweaty and have a runny nose. Hot tubers are rather large, and eating them is a full-round action.
Use Pouring this liquid onto a rock reduces its hardness by 3.

Sea foam fungi

A white fibrous fungus which grows on rotting wood. When cooked it is edible and it tastes like lobster.

Transmuter's soap

This off-white bar of soap produces copious amounts of foam and has a nice but subtle jasmine aroma.
Gather DC 14; Yield 1 dose
Terrain swamps or forests
Preparation Creating transmuter's soap is not a very complicated process, but it takes some time. The fungus must be dried for 1 week and then pulverized into a fine powder. Afterwards, the soap is created using water, oil and lye of the highest purity. The powder must be added in the final stages, at just the right temperature. A successful DC 15 Craft (alchemy) check results in the soap settling properly; failure indicates that the soap making process failed and all the reagents spoiled. The bar of soap takes a further 4 weeks to fully settle and dry up.
Use Prior to casting transmutation spells, a wizard may, as a swift action, lather their hands with the soap. Doing so provides a +1 bonus to the spell’s effective caster level.

Magical Plants

Turtle slime

A slimy fungus which grows in areas where the fey dispose of their refuse. Its name comes both from its green turtle colour and for its flavour apparently, closely mimicking turtle meat flavour.

Price 13,000 GP
Slot none; CL 1st; Weight 5 lbs.
Aura faint evocation
This slime grows tall, hardened stalks which release spores when shaken. Each stalk is several feet tall and can be used as a weapon with reach. A target hit with a touch attack takes 1d12 of acid damage in the first round, 1d8 of acid damage in the second round, and 1d4 of acid damage in the third round as the spores corrode the target's respiratory system. A turtle's slime produces one stalk each day of its reproductive season, which normally lasts 13 weeks. The slime never has more than three stalks available at a time.

Other materials

Raw plant essence

Also known as unmaterialized clouds. Harvesting the substrate of The Cloud Fields is extremely hard and normally only achieved by expert herbalist fey or naive people from the material plane who cannot figure out how to materialize plants from the cloud-like substance which makes up this whole region in the Godless Realm. More than one story of kidnapped people by the fey often revolve around greedy or impatient fey who want some unmaterialized clouds.
Use
This essence can be used to replace of any alchemical base, as long as the alchemist has a working knowledge of the substance.

This is such a fun idea! I hope your players have a lot of fun with th. I am sure they will.   I also hope the Weeping Eucalyptus trees themselves are fireproof!

In a way... They only flower after a fire. The hotter the fire, the more flowers!

Moles! <3   I love all the different plants and things, as well as all the interesting ways to prepare them. I'm also happy there's more than one type of fungus! :D
