Physical Description

Standard fitness with the natural toughness that comes with his advancing age.

Body Features

Upper neck-length hair. The rougher skin of a man who works outside and can provide for himself in the wilderness.

Facial Features

Deeply experienced eyes after living a hard life, dictated by the grievances of others. A face, wrinkled with stress and racked with guilt, though with an unbending, unyielding undertone of determination...and exhaustion.

Physical quirks

Right-handed, somewhat bad knees from the years he has spent as a 'slinger'.

Apparel & Accessories

Wears a worn, long-brimmed leather hat, and sports largely neutrally-colored outfits of pale brown and ashen gray. Always carries his holstered repeater crossbow, strapped tightly to his belt and thigh.

Specialized Equipment

Light armor (in the form of thicker clothing), his crossbow and dagger, his fletching/modification tools (tinker tools), fiddle (though not regularly on his person), and-of course-his personal hip flask.

Special abilities

A natural affinity (and highly trained ability) for offset aiming, paired with his inhumanly-quick reflexes and steady grace. By no means is Carlisle a mage, but it would be a mistake to categorize him as anything below a true superhuman in his own right...

Personal history

Not much is known about one called 'Jacob Issac Carlisle' but he certainly talks a whole lot.

Says he came from 'Nowhere County', located within the region of 'Westwood', where he learned the art of "Slingin' " by practicing on his own with a crossbow he made his own self: The one strapped to his thigh, he affecionately named 'Iron'; of course with a few modifications to it over the years...

He has since traveled the world far and wide before settling down in the sparsely-populated region, where he currently resides in a small homestead to call his own. He makes his money as an exhibition shooter at the local town, making a living by showing off with his 'six-shot repeater' and selling 'gold novels' about himself which tell of his legendary (if not outlandish) feats. It is debatable if 'Killer-Jacob Carlisle' truly has done all of the deeds he says he has but, damn...

...if his Iron don't lawyer his case somethin' good.

Jacob Issac Carlisle was born in the Town of Genteel within Clark County in the Priscille Bayou to the owners of a small-time cotton plantation, Lenard and Jessabelle Carlisle. Lenard was the first of two sons of an immigrant who started up a humble fishing business. Lenard, upon his father's death sold off the family business and pooled his money together to invest in the cotton business upon a decent plot of land. It certainly was a wise decision, as it quickly showed progress and the family was decently well-off.

Jacob grew up on stories about great huntsmen, felling as many men as they did creatures with their wit and cunning with their bows and crossbows. His father, who frequently hunted ducks with a crossbow, found it as good of a time as any to teach his son crossbow dicipline and marksmanship.

Jacob took interest in more than just the markshmanship though. A bright young man, Jacob fantasized about ways he could improve the weapon and, with his father's tools (much more-so than his permission), he eventually added a crank-back mechanism to it which allowed him to reload it while standing. As a simbol of his triumph, he even used the weapon's stirrup for the handle.

Of course, his father found out quickly after and, while he did get the belt for touching his father's posessions behind his back, Lenard Carlisle was impressed and simply gave 11 year-old Jacob the weapon to be his own first and only crossbow.
Jacob was quick to give it a name and 'Iron' was what he called it.

Two years later, Jacob's life would come apart. After his mother passed away from smallpox, his father turned to drinking to get through the pain and was never the same after that. Apparently, some of his father's ex-hands did not take too kindly to his father's new-found temper, as a group of them strung him up and left him for Jacob's little brother Louie to find him hanging from the roof of the front porch.

Jacob did his best to take care of Louie but he could only do so much to keep him happy throughout their time at the Clark County Orphanage and, after living there for another year, the brothers were seperated into two different foster families, something Jacob never got over blaming himself for.

He never fit in with his new family. He took a far greater interest in marksmanship than ever before, with murderous intent. It is safe to say his deeply religious family did not like it and, when they attempted to hide his crossbow from him, he ran away and vowed to whatever gods or spirits heard him that he was going to find his brother and the 'four dead men' who were responsible for his father's death.

Since that day, he has upgraded Iron with decorated metal plates, a gravity-fed 6-bolt magazine, and a pair of spring-loaded folding limbs, allowing him to holster it on his thigh and draw it to pump out six bolts as quickly as his hand can crank the lever.
Since that day he has pursued the handful of leads he could find on his objectives and has so far only achieved one.

Having been out of leads for over two decades, Jacob hopes to increase his fame and influence as much as possible, in the blind hope that it may ripple his surroundings and dig up the ones he has been trying to find.

Jacob is deeply troubled by the helplessness he experienced with the murder of his father and the separation of his brother. While it has made him grow far more than most other people in his determination to protect and stay with those he cares about, it also has resulted in deeply-rooted psychological and behavioral issues.
