Appearance
Simone has not spent much time or cash at the changeries. She is largely an average human woman, with jaw length hair cut on a blunt angle. She wears dark eyeliner emphasizing her bottom lashes, making her already pensive eyes look wide and melancholic. Simone has polychromatic skin, which changes constantly, and shifts depending on how the light hits it, like an opal or duochromatic pigment. She is not particularly athletic but often wears clothes which expose her iridescent skin. She commonly wears unitards underneath woven sleeveless tunics, sheer lace, or jeweled body chains. She also often wears a large overcoat and soft embroidered shoes.
History
Pre-War
Simone was once known in Satyrine as Alilaina, a socialite turned installation artist. Her work was often shallow, meant only to delight and entertain. Her medium was small contained realities that distorted experience into exaggerated fundamental pieces in an “eternal present” moment, for example an early popular work “Joy and Belonging (kissed by butterflies as sunflower in sunflower field).”Alilaina was a Weaver, understanding the “formulas” of magic used by Vances or the summoned power of Goetics, but ultimately found the “Threads” model of reality perceived by the Weavers to be her view as well.
When War came, Alilaina’s worldview changed dramatically. Her art had been naive, fun, and came easily. Beauty was fleeting and easy, and took little to create great impact. But suddenly everything was threatened, and nothing fleeting was safe. Something new came to Satyrine: stakes. Alilaina fled as a refugee, not from terror, but from horror. The people around her had done awful things in the name of defending themselves. She turned her face away from the question of evil, and the fear of losing yourself trying to keep yourself alive.
The Grey
In the grey, Simone grew up in the shadow of a horrendous conflict. Her mother fled Nazi occupied France, and raised Simone in Bakersfield, CA. As a teen, she followed the works of French existentialists, especially Sartre. She worked as a photojournalist, moving from failing local paper to failing local paper, chasing independent contributor status and rarely making an impact. She often uncovered corruption and deliberate lies, but was rarely if ever able to publish proof.
Return, After the War
After returning to Satyrine, Alilaina decided to change keep her name from the grey, and reappeared in society as Simone. Her work is now focused on clearing away deception, helping individuals find a subjective truth, and healing trauma from the war.
