Sheriff's Log Entry
Well, it is more of a personal entry than anything formal for the town. My thoughts are racing after an eventful night. Though I hope the worst is behind us, the sun is only just now rising.
The mayor lives, thanks to a concerted effort by my friends. And to his credit, the mayor at least seems to be taking initiative. However, it comes at the worst possible time. He's ordered us to arrest Belya; a mandate that does not sit very well with neither Timmorel nor myself. Worse still, I'm not sure Kat shares that same trepidation as we do.
Are we no better than Eraltis if we allow an injustice to slip? But how can these laws be so blindly applied. The mayor is alive because of what Belya offered. Does it matter that the first person she ran to was Carvilia Wheatlin and not a sheriff she does not know? A sheriff whose own ally only just charged through her home base? Belya was acting from a place of opportunity and seeking safety. She likely did not think the law and its enforcers could be a safe place.
Perhaps I could simply elect to fail in this responsibility; allow Belya to slip through my grasp and disappear before she can be brought in. She might have already disappeared while we ate our breakfast. I am not so sure Timmorel could bear the mayor's disappointment should he question her quality as deputy.
We are leaving anyway. Should Belya be gone, the problem is sorted and any nagging guilt we may feel would fade in time. Alvis can turn towards the next stages of its growth: a more reliable law enforcement process and a new captain.
Katomira may suspect my hand in the obstruction of the mayor's justice. I am certain I would not want to keep another secret from her.
There is no solution which would satisfy all involved. Already, our inaction may have made matters worse if Belya slipped away.
I almost find myself not minding if she did.

Reached Level 7
Appropriately enough, a fun-loving tavern fight leads to a new level for the caravan's resident swashbuckler. Zarius can now lunge (increasing his attack range by 5' for a round), superior feint (to deny a foe their DEX bonus to AC), use swashbuckler grace (to avoid penalty while moving through an enemy space or threatened space), target his strikes (to attack a specific body part), and act even more nimbly (adding more AC bonus when light or no armor). Hooray for Zarius!
