Raised by her grandmother on her mother's side in a small town deep within the Free Nation of Erdus, Eriole grew up being taught about the wonders of magic and the grace of Mishakal. Assisting her grandmother in running the family fabric store in the town, Eriole discovered her ability to shapeshift and change her appearance at-will, an ability gifted to her genetically by her mother.

Eriole's parents died when she was only a couple of years old, after a group of villains torched the family home with her parents still inside after her mother's changeling abilities were discovered. Eriole survived because she had been visiting her grandmother at the time, though Eriole herself has few memories of her parents' murder.

Life growing up for Eriole was fed by blissful ignorance, until one day she asked her grandmother what happened to her parents, leading to the explanation of her parents' deaths. Her Grandmother also explained that Eriole's Grandfather was a changeling as well, though one day he simply disappeared without a trace, and she doesn't know what befell him, or if he was still alive.

Determined to uncover her past and learn more about herself in a world that hates her, Eriole traveled to the capital or Erdus, Toroma, and consulted with the clergy about Mishakal's grace and favor, while also fostering a love of knowledge. Thought she finds little information on changelings, she catches a rumor that a scientist in Chardovil West has unlocked the secrets to what makes living things alive, called the Trifecta Theory. Deciding that scientist was her best bet for unlocking more secrets about herself and her abilities, she spends what little gold she has left to pay for a passage to Chardovil West.

She lands in Larulan a few months later, hearing warnings of the powerful Yvrey family - a tiny noble house with immense power and influence over the Kingdom of Ashijan and its ruling classes. She is warned to never give an Yvrey reason to know she exists, lest they turn their considerable influence against her.
