Session 008: Mossy Temple Basement & Estoria Odds & Ends Report

General Summary

Session 08 The Chosen healed. Oren was the first to go down the hall. The door was checked for traps, the Chosen opened the door & saw two female satyr looking creatures. They appeared to be nursemaids to Goatling children. The Chosen quickly went through the area. John not wanting to slaughter the Goatlings like the Chosen did with the Trogdolytes in the Mithril Mines. Closed the door, & held it shut. They attacked the doors & broke themselves out.   They Focused their attacks on Veronica, & the Chosen dispatched them. John not wanting to kill innocents left the Goatlings & Ollidak didn't see them as a threat. Corinna however walked into the room & shot two with arrows killing two Goatlings without any warning or hesitation. Ollidak told her to stop & yet she still went around him to slaughter the other two Goatling infants.   While this was occuring Oren went north, hoping to find the feast hall Loreus the Satyr told him about. He found a kitchen, stealthily walking through it, he noticed that what the two Goatlings in there were cooking was Humanoid meat. Most likely Human based on the size.   Veronica & Kyrah followed Oren. While Euadne went to the right after checking a door, finding teenagers asleep in the room. They were charmed by Demetria.   Oren went into what looked like Demetria's bedroom & found a chest. Oren knew just what to do, he pulled out his thieves tools & started picking the lock. In the chest he found many magical items: a bident of Sydon (Veronica took that), ice brand long sword, flame tongue maul, mace of disruption, goggles of the night, alchemy jug, braces of archery, an Immovable rod, & some gems & coins.   The Chosen finally found & spoke to Demetria. She told Veronica that she was to suffer Lutheria's joke & die at her hands. To know more she'd have to speak to the fates. Oren she told to kill Kyrah to get the information. When Demetria called Kyrah a bitch, Oren was angered & lost it when she repeated it. They fought her & John persuaded the four townsgirls to leave. The Gygan put Hulgnir down & Veronica healed him. Demetria charmed Oren to attack Kyrah. Oren broke out of it, to his great relief.   The Chosen defeated both the Gygan & Demetria. They drank from the Horn & were shown a vision of the Ultros. They rested & Oren attuned to his stone & his favourite relative, his wife, spoke to him & told him that the other artifact is with the Queen of the Amazons. Kyrah then told another tale while everyone was getting ready for a long rest.   The Arrival of the Dragonlords Their siblings gone, Sydon & Lutheria ruled supreme over the lands of Thylea, worshipped & honored by the gygans, centaurs, nymphs & other fey. Ages passed, & the dead Titans were forgotten by the children they had created. As far as history remembered, the Twin Titans were the authors of all.   But the remote continent birthed from their mother could not remain hidden forever. As the centuries passed, the so-called civilized races, humans, elves, dwarves & their like, began to stumble across the islands at the far reaches of the Forgotten Sea. The first to arrive were refugees & castaways, survivors of ships gone astray. Half-drowned, they crawled onto island shores & carved out a meager existence among the native fey races.   Sydon ignored these newcomers. They were too weak & pathetic to acknowledge. Lutheria found something compelling in their nature. When others came, the explorers & settlers, she stayed Sydon’s fury & allowed them to land safely so she could study these strange folk. As their numbers grew, the civilized races established small villages along the coasts. Bit by bit, they spread across the islands of Thylea, until their numbers brought them into conflict with the original inhabitants.   At first, the civilized races suffered losses whenever they encountered the fey folk. They had neither the strength nor numbers to challenge the Gygans or Centaurs in battle. They lacked the power to resist the magic tricks & temptations of the nymphs, dryads & satyrs. Everything changed with the arrival of the Dragonlords, a band of heroes who fought astride great winged mounts. Their leader was Xander Huorath, with his mighty silver dragon, Bamyltria. The second in command, Xander’s chief rival, was Rizon Phobas, who rode Bamyltria’s mate, a great Mithril Dragon. Joining them were Adonis Neurdagon, beautiful & vain; the brothers Telamok & Estor Arkelandor, ruthless & savage warriors; & several others who have since been forgotten. Each warrior was oathsworn to a dragon, & together, they were nigh unstoppable in battle.   The arrival of these magnificent creatures stoked Lutheria’s fascination with the newcomers. The dragons were unlike anything found in Thylea. At his sister’s urging, Sydon ignored the pleading of his worshippers to cleanse Thylea of the invaders. Under the leadership of the Dragonlords, the civilized races entered an age of unprecedented expansion.   Villages became towns, & towns grew into great walled cities. Encounters between the newcomers & the native races became more frequent, & more violent. Now the newcomers were winning. The native races were pushed back, retreating into the unexplored wilds. Still, out of respect for his sister-wife’s curiosity, Sydon held his fury in check, just waiting an inevitable spark that would ignite the fires of all-out war.   He did not have to wait long.   The Chosen awoke after spending half a day harvesting everything in the cave. Veronica claimed the Mossy Temple to make as a Stronghold of her own a Temple dedicated to Sydon greatest of the Titans. 12 days remained until the attack on the Mithril Mines.   They made their way to Estoria. Along the way Kyrah told them another tale.   Summoning the New Gods At the beginning of the First War the civilized peoples won many victories. Led by the Dragonlords, they rode roughshod over the armies of the Titans. The children of Thylea could not stand against the great dragons & were routed time & time again.   The armies of gygans & centaurs prayed to Sydon & Lutheria for aid, crying out to the Twins to save them from extinction. They begged the Titans to destroy the dragons, so that they could meet the civilized races in equal strength on the battlefield.   Sydon & Lutheria heard their laments & joined the struggle. The tide of war turned in favor of the native races: even a dragon cannot stand against a Titan. Whenever the dragons took to the skies, Sydon lashed them with raging winds & blasts of lightning, forcing them to the ground, where they became vulnerable to the wrath of Lutheria, who assailed them with her wicked scythe & death magic.   Many dragons were lost, & others fled. But the silver dragon, Balmytria, knew that Lutheria & Sydon would eventually find them all. In her final stand against the tyranny of the Titans, the silver dragon threw herself heedlessly against them, tearing & clawing, even after suffering numerous mortal injuries. When at last her energy was exhausted, she collapsed to the ground dead, & the Twins spat on her corpse.   Balmytria’s death ripped a hole in the very fabric of reality that rippled throughout the multiverse. Inspired by her sacrifice, five celestial beings answered her prayer & came to Thylea to protect her people. These beings are known as the Five Gods, who we still worship today: Mytros, Volkan, Pylor, Vallus & Kyrah.   The Five pledged themselves to protect the civilized races, restoring the balance of power. In the years that followed, an uneasy truce was brokered, creating a peace that has lasted for 500 years.   In any case, this is how the story is usually told…   The three copper Dragon descended & the main rider spoke to the Chosen telling them that King Acastus summons them to Mytros to deal with a threat facing the city. A storm was wracking the city ever since the Chosen saved Anona. Sydon is angry. The Chosen made their way to Estoria. John returned Corinna to her father Thericles. John attempted to return the Horn to the shrine & was told that they Horn belonged to the Chosen. And then went to Woodhike & spoke with the mayor. 11 days until the attack on the Mithril Mines. Volkan gave Pyra a magical item as thanks for the sacrifice. He took the mace to forge the magical item & Volkan transfered flame tongue enchantment to a long sword. Hulgnir attempted to speak to Pythor & was told that he abdicated his throne to his daughter & left Estoria. He should be in Mytros soon.   Oren found a prisoner's kit in Estoria & sold it to Ollidak.(edited) The Chosen spent an evening in an inn for free, their fame increasing so much.   The Oath of Peace With the arrival of the Five Gods, the Titans faced an existential threat. They were badly weakened from the fighting of the First War, & much of their divine power had been sapped away. Joined by the power of the Five Gods, the mortal armies were nigh unstoppable.   The Dragonlords made their final voyage into the Forgotten Sea, & great battles were fought over land & water. Eventually, the centaur armies were broken, & the gygan armies were all but exterminated. Sydon & Lutheria had very little left with which they could fight—but they were still gods.   Lutheria lay claim to the vast underworld of the Nether Sea, capturing the souls of the dead to make up for what she had lost. Sydon secured his hold on the waters of Thylea, generating great storms that battered the mortal cities into submission. In this way, they forced a stalemate in the war, with the hope that they might recover from their losses.   As the Titans consolidated their remaining power, they struck a revenge blow against the mortal armies. They hunted down & slaughtered most of the remaining Dragonlords, including Estor Arkelander, the captain of the Ultros. The true fate of these brave warriors is largely unrecorded in the histories. In the end, both sides of the war were threatened with total annihilation.Finally exhausted, the Titans & the Five Gods met once more beneath the great tree of the Golden Heart. They cut their hands & made blood handshakes, agreeing to a solemn truce for five hundred years. This agreement became known as the Oath of Peace, & Mytros, the Goddess of Dawn, sealed the oath with most of her remaining power.   Damon, the great wizard of the Dragonlords, saw it done. He carried the scroll of the oath & the bodies of the fallen Dragonlords back to the city. & then he disappeared into history.   The Golden Age Now, the time of mortals had come. The settlement of Mytros expanded into a great city, & it was protected by the twin Colossi forged by Volkan—beacons of civilization on the shores of a wild frontier. New settlers came from beyond the Forgotten Sea, & the mortal population of Thylea swelled.   The children of the Dragonlords became kings, & their dynasties ruled over new cities that sprang up across the land. As the worship of the Five spread, their power over the land & oceans grew, until every village boasted shrines to Volkan & Pythor. The dominion of Sydon & Lutheria was nearly forgotten.   Five centuries seemed like an eternity to mortals, but the time now grows near when the Oath of Peace must finally come to an end.   The Chosen drank at an inn for free enjoying free drinks (except Oren, Euadne, & Circe). Hulgnir seduced a barmaid, doing lines of her stomach & belly shots.   The Chosen got ready to leave for Mytros & Euadne spoke about how she had to help with the defenses on the Mithril Mines & so would be heading there.   The Chosen of the Oracle sleep. Will they to find their way to Mytros the largest city in Thylea next? Home to: the Thieves Guild, Magic Guild, Coliseum & Minotaur Enslavers (Oaths of Lifetime Service to one man), the new order of the Dragonlords, & Vallus Goddess of Wisdom.   Will the Chosen: Follow Euadne to the Mithril Mines ? 10 days until the attack on the Mithril Mines. Head to Mytros, to meet with King Acastus? Seek the Ultros? Seek the Fates? Seek the Amazon Queen? Seek the Lotus Witch?   With the Horn of Balmytria found & drank from that signifies the end of Chapter 2, & the completion of all three labours. The reward for completing Chapter 2 is 12 Rings of Communication, can communicate within 100 feet. Don't need to attune.   We shall start Chapter 3 on July 17th.
