Session 017: Steros of Fire Island Report

General Summary

Session 17 STEROS OF FIRE ISLAND The Chosen healed & continued on.   They negotiated with Steros to repair the Antikythera device that Bullbug had, first mate of the Ultros, attuned to. For help to free his father. Jekkar knocked on the door & a Lizard Queen answered the door. She was immediately hostile.   Kyrah rolled low on her initiative. John beat her again.   The Chosen fought more Lizardfolk Shaman's, a Queen, & a Shield Guardian.   They fought & defeated the Queen by polymorphing her into a turtle. Hulgnir grappled her & Oren took off her necklace, giving him control of the Shield Guardian. He joked about needing attunement.   Oren had both Cat's Grace & Greater Invisibility cast on him & he went off to steal the Brass Dragon egg. He got many eggs with it, Lizardfolk & Fire Salamander. The Chosen fought fire Salamander's in a cave, discovering the King's Chambers.   After fighting a cyclops, Jekkars armour helped him land the final blow against this villian. Sacrificing the Cyclops to Vallus by reducing it in size by chopping him up & throwing him in the Volcano.   They found a Rogue's bow, another Frost Brand Sword, & some other things, including money.   They delivered the remains of both the Queen & King to the Queen they met earlier. They ate the Lizardfolk for dinner, Hulgnir kept trying to forget that this was an intelligent creature.   Steros told them that it would take 3 days for him to: Repaire the Antikythera device Modify it to be able to travel to the Nether Sea   They accepted, Adne recalled the dangers of the Praxys of Pandemonium & had it sealed away. Searching the Ultros she found a Golden Dragon Egg in the hold in a Bronze Box shoved between two barrels.   She asked Kyrah about it who clapped happily, & said Oh good you found it. Pyra using his deep understanding of the Dragon Bond cast one for Euadne who kept her Dragon egg hot for 2 days when it hatched. The Golden Dragon was now bonded to Euadne. The gap in her Dragon lore now filled by the Bond of the Dragonlords spell cast upon her.   Euadne, I'm assuming immediately started to attune to her Dragon.   The Antikythera device fixed. The nether sea & Forgotten Sea are now both available options.   The Chosen now discussed their next island. Euadne, & Pyra voted for Dragon Island. John argued for the Garden of Helios to seek vengeance on the Dragon that wiped out his village.   Eventually they reached a decision to abide by Odin's warning to Hulgnir & avoid Titan's Folly. Earning everyone a fame point & level 9. The Chosen fixed their course onto Chimera Island. Hulgnir shared his visions about some of the paths before them. Island of the exiles & Island of the Dragon are important to Ollidak. On Themis is where Theron will find answers, & find the one he seeks to restore & the one he seeks to understand. One isn't who they seem & another will attempt to betray them.   Heldig is now over a month old so he has grownup so that he can use three attacks.   By this point, the amount of time spent alone on the Ultros. The Chosen would have noticed that Kyrah & Oren have gotten closer. To the point that they suspect that Oren & Kyrah are romantically involved with each other. Euadne suspects that Oren's Copper Dragon is Kyrah's child.   Oren reminded the Chosen that the Ultros could hold 150 tonnes so they could leave their stuff on the Ultros. There is a PC card for the Ultros so items can be put on the Ultros. That way there's no chance of using something that you wouldn't have & we forgot because it was between sessions. Also so that I can keep track of the encumbrance on the Ultros.     The Golden goat has been shorn for a second time. Veronica made an offer to Euadne since she needs 20,000 GP. Veronica will craft for her a robe of the archmagi for help with her 20,000 GP armour of Invulnerability. If Euadne helps her get the support of the rest of the Chosen.   Will the Chosen find the unexpected on Chimera Island?   Will the Chosen rid the Ultros of the Ghost that haunts her, of Estor Arkhelander?   With the completion of the Antikythera device repair quest, the Cerulean Sea chapter is done with the Chosen being able to travel to the Forgotten Sea.   So I'm going to count this as Chapter end. So everyone can pick a utility magical item or item as reward, with my permission. Something along the lines of the spice pouch, cloak of the manta ray, flying boots, etc. Something that doesnt provide combat benefits, so no weapons. Ollidak gets a Cloak of many fashions. John Horseshoes of Speed (+30 feet to Nessa's walking speed) Hulgnir Horseshoes of Speed (+30 feet to Pholon's walking speed) Oren Traveller's shiftweave Clothing (holds 5 patterns) (Captain, regular, black clothing, bright orange clothing, & TBD.) Pyra Horseshoes of the Zephyr Euadne Broom of Flying Theron Cloak of the Manta Ray Jekkar Alchemy Jug Veronica Shiftweave Travelling clothing (Sydon priest usually garb, dark stealth Sydon priestly garb, Chosen of the Oracle garb (Dragonlord symbol not Sydon) light & dark, & one TBD.)   I added some things to the party sheet that you're free to pick from next session if you can't think of anything / didn't like what I picked.   : Some time after setting out, Theron approaches Adne. He requests a private conversation at her earliest convience with an uncharacteristic urgency in his voice.(edited) 07. Constellation of the Trickster Chimera Island “See those stars that are shaped like a flower? That's the constellation of the Trickster. There once was a nobleman who took great pride in the vast rose gardens that bloomed on his estate. Eventually, these roses attracted the attention of the great trickster goddess, whose name has been forgotten. “The goddess admired the nobleman’s beautiful flowers, but she mocked his boasts: it was his servants who deserved the credit, for they tended his gardens. So the nobleman made the goddess a wager—if he could grow a field of red roses without the aid of his servants, then she must agree to marry him. “She agreed, and for a year the nobleman tended a plot in his garden with his own two hands: planting the seeds, cultivating the soil, watering and weeding every day. It was humbling, back-breaking work for the vain nobleman, but the seeds eventually took root and grew. But when the bushes finally flowered, the petals were not red, but white—the goddess had switched the seeds to teach the braggart a lesson!”   01. Constellation of The Centaur Scorpion Island “These two groups of stars are sometimes called the Centaur and the Scorpion, after a very old tale. “A centaur came across a scorpion stuck in a puddle of mud. The scorpion begged for help, but the centaur was afraid of getting stung, and so he trotted away and left her to die. “A gust of wind blew a branch into the puddle, and the scorpion was able to scramble along it and escape. She then followed the centaur’s hoof prints, seeking revenge on the selfish beast that had refused to help her. She found the centaur sleeping in a shady glen and stung him in the throat. “As the lethal venom coursed through his veins, the centaur thrashed about until one of his hooves landed on the scorpion, crushing her. ‘If you hadn’t sought revenge, we’d both be alive!’ the centaur lamented with his dying breath. ‘If you had helped me, I wouldn’t have sought revenge!’ the scorpion replied.   02. Constellation of The Bard Island of the Fates “During the First War, Pellenia, a famous bard, was captured by Lutheria, the Goddess of Dreams and Death. Terrified as to her fate, Pellenia sang songs of dark humor that made light of the First War’s atrocities, won Lutheria over, and so won her freedom. “But as she departed, Pellenia grew overbold and tried to steal Lutheria’s treasures. She was captured again and taken to the Island of Oathbreakers. There, Lutheria made her an offer: if Pellenia could make her laugh with one last song, then all would be forgiven. Before Pellenia could take up her lute, Lutheria reached out with her claws and ripped out the bard’s tongue, forever silencing her beautiful voice. “The five stars in the constellation of the Bard remind us of Pellenia’s tale. The two brightest are the singer herself; the next two symbolize her lute; the small, flickering star between them all is her severed tongue.”   03. Constellation of The Gygan Island of Yonder In the stars to the east you can see the figure of a six-armed, one-eyed giant: the Gygan. “When the Dragonlords first arrived, there was much strife between the newcomers and the native races of Thylea. Blood was spilled, but none reveled in the slaughter of warfare as much as Estor Arkelander, who was the general of the Dragonlord armies. In one brutal battle, he wiped out every Gygan warrior to the last. “After the massacre, the children of the Gygans prayed to Sydon and Lutheria for protection. Moved by their plight, the great Titans rallied the centaurs, the nymphs, all the native races. They attacked the settlements of the Dragonlords across the islands in retaliation for Estor Arkelander’s crimes. The First War had begun.”   06. Constellation of The Ant Titan's Folly If you use your imagination, you can see how the stars of Titan's Folly resemble an ant. This is a reminder of the punishment of Talieus, first-born child of Thylea and Kentimane. Talieus was the God of Crafting, vain and prideful. In the end, hubris—overwhelming pride—was his downfall. He created something which has been lost to time, something that cannot be named. “For this terrible crime, Kentimane stripped his eldest son of all his power and gave it to his brother Sydon, while Talieus himself was enslaved by his sister Lutheria. She severed his arms, blinded him, and sewed his lips shut. She forced him to pull her throne across the endless waters of the Nether Sea, with a great chain wrapped around his neck. He toiled endlessly, blindly, for the benefit of his queen, just like an ant…”   04. Constellation of The Heart Golden Heart “The brightest star in the night sky is called the Golden Heart. you can see it high above us on any clear night. It represents the tree that sprang up when Thylea, the Great Mother, sacrificed herself to create our land. If you look closely, you can see a cluster of fainter stars scattered around the Golden Heart; these represent all the islands that sprung up from her roots. “And if you look slightly to the west, you’ll notice a single red star watching over the Golden Heart and the islands: Kentimane, Thylea’s husband, who honors his vow to protect his lover with an endless vigil.   A little bit of lore about the setting, or at least a reminder on pantheon's. Most commoners would make an offering to Sydon before setting sail, Lutheria before drinking, Thylea before giving birth or helping an animal giving birth, Vallus before making a deal, pythor before going to war or a fight, Volkan if they are a craftsman or crafting something, Kentimane after disasters, & Kyrah pretty much never. Few people would worship only one deity, they'd be a lot like the Chosen giving sacrifices to those who are appropriate for the circumstances.
