The self-assured composure Kastayos boasted in that chamber crumbled away as this betrayal was revealed to him. His enemies were now close, and his defenses penetrated because he was foolish enough to believe the betrayal of an enemy without question.
The party rested for that night, preparing themselves for what would come next. Dawn arose and the camp was taken down, items stored, and weapons prepared for the final encounter.
Rhomod swiftly noted the oncoming ruin of the situation and attempted to flee the fort, passing by the agent of Acolitus- the two skirted the southern curtain wall toward the gate, but were assailed by a great number of Vojunic beasts which were born from the surrounding smoke. They fought these things but suffered pains from it, and in those moments Rhomod remembered Arelastod who was currently unaccountered for… possibly dead?
The party deliberated on their next move for quite some time, while Getas rallied his troops and supplies for a suspected march against the beasts. Oradyol sharpened weapons while Rhomod attempted to teach Arelastod and others certain motions to improve their skill.
Now together, the party discussed their next plan. They could either remain near the ruins of the fort, depart to safer ground, leave altogether, etc.
The northern party, of Thelastor, Xeyesh, Oradyol, and Yaza, continued their way back toward the fort, uncertain of its fate and the fate of their companions. They spoke little, but tendered their wounds and marveled at the items of great antiquity given to them.
Thelastor, Oradyol, and Yaza pushed deeper into the darkness, toward the origin point of the wild crashing noise. They were hindered in their sight and hearing by the howling Vojunic winds which rushed toward their many sources of Viiryne, including Arelastod’s ancestral sword which Thelastor took for himself after it was near forgotten by its “bravery-challenged” master.
Xeyesh, Rhomod, and Arelastod were pushed into the village, which was damaged from obvious conflict. A great heap of corpses, Aemar and Duyor alike, moldered on the near edge of the village.
The party was understandably horrified to see what transformation had overtaken Othyrus- they gathered close, questioning him. Othyrus explained that he sought means in the depths to save the fort, and achieved it.
Xeyesh spoke with Thelastor upon arriving, and warned him about Othyrus- how he stole away the Vojunic power from beyond and misguided the creatures there for his own purposes. Thelastor responded that he and Othyrus spoke, but the latter’s purposes seemed not quite clear yet.
The battle for the viod raged and its situation deteriorated swiftly. Duyor warriors were emboldened by the success of the first wave, and thus in great numbers hurled themselves against the walls.
After spending the day raising the ship from the sandbar, the fort’s garrison, party and otherwise, returned home- with the exception of two sailors who were left to guard the ship.
After making his way down, Thelastor finally arrived upon the same muddy ground as Arelastod and Xeyesh. He paused, listened closely, and heard some noise down the western corridors.
After the exhausting events of the previous night, most of the party was spent- now choosing to sleep until around noontime with some on guard. Awakening that time later, the party set to preparing hunting parties to restock food, since the boat’s rations were all which was available- 4 days all said.
As night was thickening, Thelastor established a watch comprising of conscripts, saviors, his own servant, and himself, keeping regular interval. Xeyesh was watching alongside them from the upper tower.
The light of Eshabal rose on another day, beating harsh rays upon the hungover eyes of the Viod’s celebrants. Groggy villagers and the groggy party stumble about, gathering this forgotten item here or that loose clothing thereabout.
The adventure began on a boat, two masted and rather cramped. Six sailors were aboard, including a Getas Bastigos who was master and his five subordinates. Five conscripted Eurobasar were with them. Finally, there were seven characters of more important note, being the undesirous protagonists of this ill-fated venture.
