Chapter Five: Recovery

General Summary

At 7:32pm on January 27th, 2162, the newly expatriated Fuyaoans rode in two medical transport ambulances to Dayton Memorial Hospital, away from all the excitement in their home country of Fuyao Beimei . James rode with the crew from Snippets, most of them in a resigned silence full of frustration. John Echols retrieved some antiseptic for the severed end of his pinky, although he was unable to retrieve antibiotics from the door as well.
In the other medical transport were Raymond, Wei, and Sebastian who all suffered from gun shot wounds with the recent altercation. Scoot called the hospital doctor to explain the situation and attempted to help Wei stunt out his bleeding chest. Pete Deyes just stayed in the background, seemingly shell shocked from the whole thing.
It was a 20 minute ride in total, with John, Wei, Raymond and Sebastian all being escorted off to their own enclosed emergency rooms. All the Fuyaoans who needed translators were given one. The tech was impressive as their wounds were healed with silicone gel instead of stitches, and a robotic arm aided the nurses and doctors as they looked over their patients. Meanwhile, James figured out his next step with Lily Bjorklund, curious to possibly follow her back to Chimazon. Pete, recovering from his shell shock, mentioned that Delaera may be willing to give citizenship to anyone that would bring Wei and his glass formula to Virgin Galactic.
Soon, peace officers interviewed those in the waiting room first. Wade Bescript took the opportunity to go over everything he experienced from the explosion much earlier than day. James focused more on how everyone involved had to defend themselves, possibly altering the story to their favor. Scoot verified the story with the peace officers, who then also took time to question Raymond and Sebastian. Wei, who had to go into surgery to repair his lungs, was not available for comment at that moment.
Within a couple hours, the FBI was involved, specifically Agents Hartloper and Freese. Everyone was thoroughly questioned individually, specifically on what was this story they were hearing about an explosion and why did it result in three men suffering serious gunshot wounds. James explained his need to get away from Fuyao Beimei due to how he was mistreated. Agent Freese was not convinced that a "demotion" to a position in Human Resources would be enough. James admitted his youth could be his folly but wasn't backing down on his position. Scoot focused on how Fuyao Beimei would round up dissidents and make sure citizens wouldn't escape in the past, and how that aligned with the situation he has just experienced. Raymond was happy to tell the agents about the drones that had dropped the messages from the sky and how he was working on getting a scoop for his favorite show The Truth Machine. Sebastian frustratingly tried to explain his complicated position of being an arm of the state while having doubts for some time, trying to justify why he did end up cutting off John's pinky during an interrogation. When the agents finally got to Wei, that's when they found out that there was evidence suggesting the explosion was a planned detonation.
Soon James visiting John with Lily and Wade. John was able to have his finger reattached thanks to the science of Cell Level Reconstruction. Wade started to talk about continuing coverage of Fuyao Beimei, and James pulled him aside to remind him that everyone had almost died escaping the country. Wade understood but was still excited to see where the story would go.
By the dawn, Delaera finally sent out official hologram decrees for Wei, Raymond, James, Scoot and Sebastian. They would all be under the protection of Delaera as Neutral Party, Incorporated would investigate the explosion and resulting chaos that occurred the day before in Fuyao Beimei. It meant that they would have to travel Nevada under the watch of Pete Deyes. James talked to Lily, uncertain if Delaera or Chimazon would ultimately be his future. They two made a plan to keep in touch.
In the afternoon, representative Emily Asbury from Delaera went with Pete and the ex-patriots to the Cincinnati North American United High Speed Rail Station. Those who had weapons turned them in to the nearest Keepers of the Peace Office, while other focused more on the generous stipend offered to go shopping for spare clothes and toiletries. The group was finally boarding the train right before 6pm on January 28th, 2162.
