Chapter Eight: Those Who Have Wandered

General Summary

At about 4:40pm on January 30th, 2162, Sebastian had finished his interview with the Arbitration Agents in the home the Discontents were staying in Elko, Nevada. As he came down, James, Wei, Raymond and Scoot first asked about his interrogation. Sebastian admitted to keeping some information close to his chest. Wei criticized the loyalty to Fuyao Beimei considering there was little chance they would ever go back.
The rest of the group let Sebastian know that Pete Deyes had asked for their help in retrieving his son Winston from Nature's Samsara based in The Elko Commune in the nearby mountains. Raymond's assessment from what he had heard of before had the group believing it was typical "sex cult". The group had concerns with the idea of helping Pete. They had just escaped a dangerous situation and may have already been victims of an international incident. Sebastian and James specifically did not feel like risking their lives by potentially starting another one.
Pete returned shortly after and let the group know that if they would be willing to help him, he may had found a way to solidify their ties to Delaera for the future. He said he would have more information in the morning. The group, now seeing more of their own interest in the situation, were more receptive to the idea.
In the morning Pete introduced the Discontents to Bodi Poppiti an assistant to the Chief Executive of Delaera. Bodi, let the group know that Pete's and Delaera's interests overlapped. Delaera was interested in finding the rogue scientist Tesla Price. In the spring of 2161 she had gone on vacation to Yosemite Northwest with her extended family, bringing with her 7 month old daughter Abigail. Neither had returned to Delaera. Dr. Price was spotted with other members of Nature's Samsara, and since the Elko Commune is it's own independent nation, Delaera was resistant to infringing onto the land. However, the Discontents provide a solution--free agents that could investigate without officially being a force from Delaera. The hope would be to at least confirm Dr. Price's location and hopefully convince her to come back, especially since the project she had been working on would be dangerous in the wrong hands.
Bodi let the group look over the contract before signing, which left James and Scoot to read and interpret for their mandarin-speaking colleagues. Despite some redacted areas, James felt the contract was fair. Scoot was just eager to go. All five discontents signed their name to the physical copies of the contracts. Bodi let them know that Delaera would be willing to provide resources.
The Discontents, not wanting to wait too long, began planning for supplies. They asked Bodi for weapons (stun batons) and hiking trail gear. Raymond felt even more prepared with his hat that he proclaimed to the group protected him from the inevitable sex magic on the mountain. Wei was able to find out a spot where a man named Martin Ybaro could be found selling goods in the city of Elko. With transport provided by Delaera, they made their way to walk to the stand where Martin and another adherent to the faith, Ivan, were selling vegetables and pet guinea pigs to anyone who would pass by.
James approached Martin and explained that he and the rest of the group had escaped from the oppression of Fuyao Beimei and were looking for a place of true fulfillment. Martin at first was skeptical of these strangers seeking the commune, but Ivan helped convince him to bring the men up to the commune. Ivan explained that the commune was in need of help with the child care area and other tasks. Figuring the group would be ready to work, he packed up some ofhte goods and led the five men up the mountain.
The Elko Commune was on a flat spot of the mountain, with one very old cabin with mismatch updates and improvements keeping it in tact. The buildings and furnishings around the commune were all made of found or recycle materials. Even the atriums where the Discontents could see all the produce being grown were made of mismatch glass panels. Ivan led them to an outdoor seating area. The group looked around in earnest to find either Winston or Tesla as they waited. Neither could be found.
Ivan finally brought them into the old cabin, where they sat on an old oriental rug in the living room. Three full beds were against the wall with scattered sheets. The room was ram despite the winter temperatures, and in front of them stood the Cosmically Attuned Dahlia Munoz. With a sly smile and friendly demeanor, she welcomed the group to stay as long as they saw fit in the commune.
In the corner of the room, Raymond and James spotted a tall, lanky teenage boy with short dark hair, shirtless and sitting on one of the beds. Wei recognized him as Winston Deyes, Pete's son.
It is 4:47pm on January 31st, 2162.
