Session 19 - Kidnappings and Confessions

General Summary

Kumiko uses Lighting Bolt to mixed results.
Anzin, the dwarven wizard from the Pathfinder Society who magically returned the party to Sandpoint, was taken to the crypt below the Glassworks Factory to examine the Thassalonian relics within. He was also escorted to Thistletop, where King Glar took him below to the Thassalonian tomb and allowed him full access. Anzin offered to seal the tomb away so nothing uprooted during his exploration would bother the inhabitants of Thistletop. The opposite was more of the truth, with Anzin not wanting the goblins to poke around the tomb, but he chose not to share that with King Glar. He sealed up the stairway and used his teleportation spell to come and go as he needed.   Grog spent several days meditating in his cave. He could feel his power growing and became more attuned to the earth and stone around him. During one of his meditation sessions, Grog felt a disturbance in the energy flow just outside his cave. He exited the cave and discovered a flat rock had been placed outside, with three smooth stones on top of it. The smooth stones, not native to the area, were set in a triangular formation. Grog could not see who it was that had placed them, or what it meant. Was it a warning from the Ebon Triad perhaps?   Kumiko and Gallious began searching for Kadrus Shieldwalker to learn more about the communication ioun stones in his possession. They found that he had been ousted from the home of Brodert Quink once the scholar had returned from Magnimar. After asking around town, one of the town guards at the north gate said they had seen Kadrus heading north but had not returned. The duo ventured down the road and saw a magical campfire tucked away in the woods. Beside the fire was a small hut that Roglas and the Warbound were using as a base of operations.   Kadrus came out of the hut and was startled at the presence of Kumiko and Gallious. He invited them into the hut and sat down on a stump. He was drinking a mild tonin that Gallious felt was a mild poison. With shaking hands, Kadrus confessed that he had once been a gnome who joined the party Roglas had previously been a member of. One of the other traveling companions was interested in an item called an aeon runestone. The item was long believed to be a myth, but the companion was aware of a book that had been written by an elf who may have known the truth of the runestone. The gnome knew someone who had the book, but admitted that they would not part with it. The traveling companion said they would simply kill the owner and take the book if that was the case. The uncharacteristic callousness disturbed the gnome so much that he left the party. Moments later, the gnome was killed by Roglas.   A druid had found the gnome and reincarnated him as Kadrus, an elf. With a new lease on life, Kadrus could not remember much of his past. He did, however, remember Roglas and his hobgoblin accomplice Sereg. Kadrus knew they had to be stopped. He searched for them and joined their group, hoping to find a way to avenge his death. But Kadrus feared Roglas too much to try and kill him, and with Sereg watching him he couldn't let Roglas die through neglect of his duties within the group.   Filled with shame, Kadrus admitted to stealing the satchel knowing the shard was inside, and hoping the Saviors of Sandpoint would kill Roglas if he showed up to reclaim it. "I used you because I could not face my fear," Kadrus confessed. "And for that, I am so very sorry."   He then handed over the communication ioun stones, hoping they could make use of them. Kumiko and Gallous told Kadrus to stop drinking and not to do... whatever it was he seemed to be trying to do. Kadrus agreed and told them he would see them tomorrow. With that, Kumiko and Gallious left.   At the Deverin Manor, Kilgor and Jayvielle Deverin continued their training with the mayor's osirion bodyguard Suljik. Suljik asked about the scarring tattoo on Jayvielle's back, the one that looked like three waves. Jayvielle was surprised at this as he had no idea he had such a marking. Mayor Kendra Deverin joined the boys in the spacious garden. Suljik asked about a mark on her forehead but she wiped it away. She told Kilgor and Jayvielle that Suljik had a vision that she had obtained some kind of scar on her forehead, and days later she was brutally killed. Kendra offered to wear a helmet to prevent the scar and save her life, but Suljik did not see the humor in it.   Later that evening, the Saviors of Sandpoint gathered at the Rusty Dragon for dinner. After the meal, they enjoyed some of the performers as did the rest of the boisterous crowd. Kumiko felt an odd sensation, but it disappeared as quickly as it appeared. Ameiko Kaijitsu approached the table and asked if everyone was ok. She said that she noticed an elf at a nearby table had cast a spell in the party's direction. The elf had just left the establishment.   The party gave chase. Just as they were exiting the Rusty Dragon, the elf wizard was waiting with several henchmen. He said he did not want any trouble, and there was no need for bloodshed. They had simply come to collect Kumiko for their employer, Lord Blackmoor. Kumiko seemed to know who that was and refused to go with the wizard. Combat quickly commenced from there, and in the end, everyone was killed except for one of the footmen. He was shackled and admitted to having been hired by the wizard, and only knew they were supposed to collect Kumiko and take her with the wizard.   Sheriff Belor Hemlock arrived on the scene with four guards. They took the man into custody. The sheriff grabbed him by the throat and demanded to know if this kidnapping attempt had anything to do with the murders. No one seemed to know what the sheriff was talking about, so Sheriff Hemlock sent the footman away with his men. He then turned to the party and told them he needed their help.

Missions/Quests Completed

  • Discovered some of Kadrus' history.
  • Obtained the communication ioun stones (Gallious placed in his handy haversack).

  • Lord Blackmoor, a chelish nobleman from Kumiko's past, is interested in speaking with her.

Character(s) interacted with

  • Kadrus Shieldwalker - Elven arcanist with an interest in Thassalonian history. He was a former member of an adventuring party led by Roglas Gorestorm. Could not bring himself to kill Roglas, the man who had slain him in the past. Admitted to using the Saviors of Sandpoint to exact his revenge and feels very guilty for doing so.
  • Suljik - An osirion adept who came to Sandpoint because he had never seen the ocean. He was attacked by bandits and was saved by Sheriff Casp Avertin. He owed the Sheriff, but when Chopper killed him Suljik could not repay the debt he owed. Instead, he repaid his debt to the woman the Sheriff would have married – Kendra Deverin.
  • Mayor Kendra Deverin - Serves as Sandpoint's mayor as well as lawmaker, judge, and general peacemaker. She has proven to be both an adept diplomat and stern hand when she needs to be, both skills honed during her youth in Magnimar. With a personal—some say sisterly—style of governing, most of Sandpoint's citizens hold deep respect for their fiery-haired mayor.
  • Anzin - Dwarven wizard and high ranking member of the Pathfinder Society based out of Magnimar. Seems to have history with the halfling Bethana Corwin and playfully flirts with her when he visits the Rusty Dragon.
  • Sheriff Belor Hemlock - The current sheriff of Sandpoint. He replaced the previous sheriff, Casp Avertin, who was killed by serial killer Chopper. Originally a member of the Shriikirri-Quah tribe of the Shoanti, Belor abandoned his heritage when he took on the role of sheriff, changing his last name from its native Viskalai to the Chelish translation of Hemlock, much to the dismay of his brother Garridan, the owner of the White Deer inn.
