Wolves' Law

General Summary

Ye may kill for yourselves, and your mates, and your cubs as they need and ye can; But kill not for pleasure of killing, and seven times never kill man.
— "The Law for the Wolves," Rudyard Kipling (1865–1936)

Sedinum, the 25th of Ikatrus, 114 post Refugium

Having ventured beyond the foyer of the shrine, the party cautiously made its way down the central corridor of what was presumably the wing of the temple used for the priests' bedchambers. Finding one door difficult to open, the party's curiosity was raised. Zhuge cast a cantrip to shrink the door's lock so that Alexandru could look through the space where the lock was. Alexandru peered in and saw a terrified Goblin with his back against the wall of the room and that the door was held shut by two metal bars propped between the door and the floor.

Zhuge stuck his wizard's staff through the hole and knocked the bars aside. Alexandru and Kegho then rushed into the room to find four Goblins who attempted to communicate with Alexandru. However, this was fruitless as no one in the party spoke Wemhavian. One Goblin attempted to speak a pigdin form of Aeriscan, creaking out "No. Kill. I." in a strange, high-pitched accent. The party motioned to the Goblins to put down their crude short swords, and they obliged. The Goblins continued to attempt to communicate with the party in Wemhavian, but all they could get across was that they desired to flee the temple. The party allowed the them to escape unharmed.

Having dealt with the Goblins, the party continued to cautiously make its way through the main corridor while investigating the rooms on each side. All of the rooms proved to be empty of anything interesting. Approaching the room at the end of the corridor, Alexandru attuned his keen Oameni hearing and eavesdropped on what appeared to be a game of cards. After relating his discovery to the rest of the party, Riven and Kegho moved to the front in case the coming interaction proved to be hostile. The party's fears were realized as the group behind the door consisted of four brigands who leaped from their seats to engage the party in melee. Fighting through the narrow doorway in close quarters, Kegho and Riven received grievous wounds and fell to the floor. Theophilus tossed a bottle of flammable oil into the room, and Zhuge used an arcane cantrip to launch a lit torch into oil to set it aflame. Shortly after the oil caught fire, the party were surprised when, from out of seemingly nowhere, a dog leaped over Alex's shoulder and caught a Kharadi brigand by the throat, pulling him to the ground. This surprise allowed the party to drag Riven and Kegho to safety as the flames consumed the hapless mercenaries.
