A Walk in the Park Report

General Summary

A voice broadcasts on an emergency channel Socrates is scanning (among many): "This is Delta six four five declaring Pan Pan Pan. We’ve had a sonic boom..."   He brings it to Runeforce's attention.   Using a DarkR FOB, Runeforce speaks over the same emergency channel, “VIPER is en route now. When they arrive, you’ll only have a few seconds to get off the plane.”   The voice responds, "What about the passengers?"   Runeforce sends back, "Not two, but three heroes have arrived on the scene to help stop the hijacking. But there are too many VIPER agents with cannon blasters. They’ll eventually kill many innocent.”   There is silence for a moment, then the voice broadcasts again, "Delta Four Two Three Heavy, we are inbound for runway Two Eight Zero at Twenty degrees. Negative Eight-Three-Zero, 44,906 are in imminent danger."   There is a brief pause, then, "We are flying by the numbers, Ground Control. I hope you understand and confirm."   There is silence on the channel.   "Can you confirm?"   Another voice cracks in. "What in THE HELL are you going on about? This is an emergency channel. This is no place for pranks!"   And then a different voice, "Hey Willis, this joker can't even keep his plan number straight." He coughs. "You idiots get off this frequency."   Runeforce ignores the chatter, hoping he has reached the other hero from the airport who has just encoded coordinates in his last message...by the numbers.   “Standby. Heroes will be there when you land. Stay in the cockpit for the next thirty minutes once you land.”   With noticeable relief in his voice, the stranger says, "Roger. 30 minutes. Thank you, Ground Control. Out."

The heroes scrambled to get to Hart Park in time to meet up with the other masked hero from the airport. Clues seemed to indicate Hart Park under the large "Stargate" statue.   The heroes arrived at the set time, but they found no one unusual, no one apparently looking for them. Finally, they decided to start to reveal their presence more openly. Nearby a man a girl started having a scuffle, so a few moved that way, and the others moved to the statue and revealed themselves in Hero ID.   Not long after, some of the Ultimates appears on scene, Orion declaring he had hoped they would show up. He demanded their surrender, or threatened bodily harm. Binder came in from another direction and launched into the air with his Jetboots.   Sandcrab hit Binder with an entangle of earth, and Maximum Resistance hit Orion with an attack that blinded him in sight, hearing, and radio...and then followed up with a tazer-ball of some kind that locked up his body.   Blackstar lumbered onto the scene and headed to Binder to help...slowly.   By this time Cypher was just getting into position to change into his Hero outfit.   Orion pulled back in a blind, but strategic retreat. Binder struggled a bit, but then just decided to wait for Blackstar to get to him.   The heroes decided at this point to abort the mission, as the hero they were looking for did not seem to be there. Binder was freed and started to attack just as Max and Stevie teleported out. Cypher and Wildthing escaped without incident either.
A NEW message goes out over the Emergency Channel: "Blue Forcefield Villain, Armored Digger, Drone Fighter." (There might have been some giggling, but maybe not.) "We will find you, and when we meet again, there will be a reckoning."   "And you, Beastwoman...you just keep hiding. It will keep you safer longer, but will only delay the inevitable."   "The ULTIMATES will defeat you next time you show yourselves in Millennium City. You will beg for the Vanishing before we are done with you."
