Session 80: Brawling Beasts! Report

General Summary

32nd of Deismir 1524 continued     After dispatching the slavers and sending them on their way, Erin and Karl talk about what to do with the slaves. Karl says at the end of the day he’ll contact Lily and maybe teleport them to Brechlen. They also talk about Colin, the generals and places of power.   From 10am until dinner, he is controlling the weather to help speed them along to their destination.  


After Mydia competes her race, her parents invite everyone over for dinner, though no one outright accepts. Lily will head to the temple and Fargrim will head to his guild.  
Lily arrives at the temple at 10:40am. She takes stock of the festival things set up around the temple before getting some Spoked Apple Pie for lunch before heading to Timest Road.  
Fargrim heads to the bank before going to the guild and pays for the upgrade of his bag. Should be finished by close of Business on the 8th of Erntenir. Then heads to Timest Road.   He arrives at 11:30pm. Fargrim sees familiar faces from the Xeldarix temple around helping with the event. Most people are doing the right thing. One kid tries to graffiti but is given a stern talking to while someone magically removes it. Then heads to an inn to get some lunch. He has the Goredawn Ramslay special. Then heads to the Mage Guild to see Master Barnes when he suddenly has an idea.   —-------------------   Lily arrives at noon in Timest Road. Lily will get some paint and try to paint a small bird and dolphin on one spot. She notices a few people try to do some graffiti in areas that are not approved. They're pulled aside and given a talking to as it’s magically removed.   Then they hang around to wait for the jousting event.  
  At 1:30pm Fargrim arrives at the mage guild. He catches Master Barnes as she too is entering the school. He talks Master Barnes round to the idea of tutoring Uqaviel so he might be a better teacher. Though Fargrim admits he hasn’t brought this idea up with Uqaviel and it seems Master Barnes has to ask the school for permission to do this as well.   After that Fargrim heads back to hang around watch the joust.  
  At 3pm the joust begins! Jubilant Joust is a fun twist on traditional tournament jousting. It still contains the common act of two riders charging at one another with lances and trying to dismount the other, but what makes this particular event unique is that the mounts the contestants ride upon can vary drastically.   Before the joust begins, each team is released into a large fenced off area in the woods to the northwest of town where a variety of potential mounts have been set loose. They have a few supplies to help them in this endeavour and different creatures provide different bonuses during the joust portion of the competition!   The teams then compete against one another in a best of five joust event using these mounts with each joust having three rounds. There are two different types of lances that can be used - one for dexterous competitors and the other for strong competitors. The team with the highest dismounts is victorious!   Marco is the quickest to find his mount, followed by Rider 1-3 in sequential order and Marabel getting hers last. They find the following:

Lily, Fargrim, Xeldarix and Uqaviel head back to the manor. They arrive at 5:30pm. There Fargrim takes Uqaviel for a private chat. Meanwhile Xeldarix and Lily take advantage of this moment for their own chat.   As Fargrim explains what he is trying to arrange to make Uqaviel a better teacher, Uqaviel does not think it will help with an unwilling student. Xeldarix would have to willingly stay at the school for this to happen. Meanwhile Xeldarix tries to convenience Lily that they should just leave but Lily changes the topic to the shared dream things Lily did. Xeldarix didn’t do it on purpose and just happened.   When Fargrim and Uqaviel return the idea of Uqaviel learning to be a better teacher is brought up. This brings up Lily’s plans while Karl is busy which is to do research. Maybe a trip to Archestuel but that’s it. Xeldarix doesn’t seem enthused about the conversation to do with Uqaviel. Then they contact Quispe to give her an idea of how long they might be before they would have people ready to come and take on the role of escorts.   As Caramella starts to serve up a lamb shoulder with roasted potatoes and veggies, Lily gets a message from Karl.  
  As Erdad serves up dinner, the ship has reached the island and a hopefully safe cove to weigh anchor. Karl sends a message to Lily to tells her about the slaves and Lily asks Karl to hold off for an hour so she can get to the guild. Lily is concerned with how full the temple is.   While waiting for Lily to be ready Karl and the officers have dinner. They talk about the haul they got off of the boat and when dinner is finished Karl identifies the helm. It’s a Helm of underwater action.  
  Lily and Fargrim talk about the incoming slaves. They brainstorm a few ideas about where to house these people like Neira’s temple. After dinner they head to the mage guild. They leave at 7pm, Lily sends Karl a message so he can be ready to send them through.  
  Karl and Erin gently coax the now freed slaves onto the deck. They do as requested without a fight, but is clear these people are very conditioned to following instructions. Upon hearing from Lily that she is ready, he casts teleportation circle and sends them through.  
  Upon arriving at the mage guild, Lily and Fargrim check in at the front desk. Fargrim asks after Master Barnes, but she has retired for the night. Lily is told the circle is free, and passes this information onto Karl to say they are ready. The other side of the portal appears and 20 people in tattered clothing run through looking scared and down at the floor.   Fargrim and Lily try to reassure and comfort them as they take them to the lobby of the guild. They find out one is from Brechlen. However, as they all either refused or are unable to talk, getting more information is difficult. After a quick chat via sending stones to Karl, Lily suspects some of the people have had their tongue cut out. Fargrim contacts Steve via the ring to have him come to the guild to help with some of them. Lily learns 8 of them have had their tongues cut out. Fargrim regenerates two of their tongues.   While waiting for Steve, Fargrim suggests that Xeldarix, Uqaviel and himself head back for a history lesson. Xeldarix tries to get out of it and when they keep pressing her she starts to sulk as she leaves the guild. Fargrim follows her with Uqaviel while Lily waits for Steve with the ex-slaves.  
  With the ex-slaves gone, Karl focuses on the shoreline to ensure that there is nothing unusual there. Which there isn’t as far as he can tell. Erin and Karl retire for the night to enjoy one another’s company.  
  Fargrim tries to helpfully point out that Xeldarix doesn’t seem to be heading to the manor. She’s not going back to the manor and doesn't want to do the lessons. She doesn’t like it was put before helping people. Fargrim reminds her of something Xeldarix said to them the night they met, which was to get stronger. They get into an argument which has Fargrim making some harsh statements about Uqaviel, himself and Lily thrash about so she can get some applause from the kids at the temple. This sets Xeldarix into a rage. She reveals she remembers never wanting followers and trying to cut that nonsense off from the beginning before she left and got hurt. She feels like everyone is suffering because of her and she has no idea how knowing history will fix that.   Fargrim tries to reassure her that she’s not a burden or cause of suffering, but is a friend. However, the history is good for Xeldarix’s recovery. Except Xeldarix reveals she doesn’t want to remember. The more she remembers, the more she questions hanging around with the group. She questions why people don’t seem to think she is enough as she is now. Fargrim is a little stumped by this and admits he doesn’t have the answers for her before bidding her a good night and to be safe as she flies off with Uqaviel following her out into the bay.   Fargrim arrives back at the manor at 8pm. He goes to see Simone about doing a reading for Lily.   Question: "So the question is "How do we access the contract room in the nine hells?"   “At this stage you lack a guide that can safely get you in and out of hell without risking capture, death, or torture. Beware of counsel that is made of half remembered facts and tibits, instead look to protection items and things that could assist you if it all goes wrong. This will involve you stepping out of your comfort zone as deals are made with devils and all the while trying not to draw the eye of the lords of hell. If you can make it into the contract room, there is someone there that owes one of your group a favour and will help where they can with certain limits.”   Fargrim writes it down for Lily. Fargrim and Simone debate Xeldarix’s situation and what Fargrim thinks is going on with her. In the end Fargrim becomes hungry as the conversation shifts to food. He leaves Simone to get a snack. To his displeasure he discovers his jaw distends and he’s able to fit more in his mouth then he thought he should be able to.   He removes curses from the hag items before heading to bed at 9:30pm with just two remaining.  
  At 8pm Steve arrives. Gale has come with him and seems to be on the lookout for Karl. Steve helps the few he can with giving them their tongues back. He’s able to house them short term overnight. Lily conjures goodberrys for everyone. Lily leaves and walks out of the mage guild.   Feeling what Xeldarix is feeling, Lily messages Fargrim to ask what happens. He fills her in a little bit of what he interpreted the problem to be. Lily says she’s going after her and probably won’t be back tonight. She rides Ohtli out into the bay arm and is drawn to the lighthouse that. As she approaches she sees two winged creatures fighting. It’s Uqaviel and Xeldarix are fighting. She is raging and Uqaviel is allowing her to rage at him. Lily watches this unfold. The fight slowly leaves Xeldarix and Uqaviel just hugs her. Uqaviel acknowledges Lily silently as Lily feels a headache forming in her head. He mentally explains Xeldarix is having trouble containing her emotion to her own body and has been “leaking” on the way here.   Lily suggests they camp away from the lighthouse as Xeldarix hugs her. They discuss heading to the shoreline to make camp. Uqaviel explains that at this stage lessons cannot continue as he wants to pass on the information and she doesn’t want to receive it.   At 9:15pm Lily messages Fargrim as he prepares his snack for the night. They discuss a bit of what has happened and the prophecy Simone gave.   Then Lily, Xeldarix, and Uqaviel head South. By 10pm they have found somewhere to camp and have set up.   As Lily takes her watch and near the end of it, Xeldarix has one of her memory leaks. She sees flashes of Xeldarix’s past.

  • She is lacking, limbs, wings and eyes before being thrown into a lava pool.
Once this is finished Xeldarix seems to fall into a more peaceful sleep. Lily takes the time to try and sketch the devil, but is a bit generic.   1st of Erntenir   Fargrim will get up at 5:30am. He removes the curses from the last two items. Then goes through his usual routine. Simone and Fargrim have breakfast at 7am. Fargrim will wait for Lily to have a second breakfast after Simone leaves. Simone warns Fargrim against eating too much in case he vomits later from excitement. Simone also comes to understand why people think one sided conversations are weird. Simones tells him about a gauntlet food challenge that is at most taverns.  
  Lily will get up at 5:30am. She conjures some goodberries for the group and armours up.   Then has a quiet mental chat with Xeldarix. Apologising if she was made to feel pressured to be someone else. Xeldarix feels Lily has been supportive enough. They agree to take it slower. Xeldarix doesn’t want to learn more history and remember more hurts when she is still coming to terms with the death of her god/creator and all the pain that came with that. Lily is understanding and just encourages Xeldarix to talk to them next time she is feeling so overwhelmed sooner before feeling the need to lash out. Xeldarix knows she should have said something, but she feels Fargrim made it clear while she wasn’t a burden, she was a danger to those around her. She nearly planeshifted away for the safety and betterment of everyone, but selfishly chose to stay. Lily confirms she preferred Xeldarix stay. Though if Xeldarix left, Lily would find and stay with her. Xeldarix understands this and it did factor her into her choice to stay. She worries about her past coming after them and misses her state from a few weeks ago when things were simpler. Lily reassures her that they will handle the danger.   They get ready to head back to Brechlen. She sends a message to Fargrim to let him know she is on the way back.  
  Karl is woken by Erin at 6am with coffee and a smile. She reveals a card that has a sad face in it where the flowers were, they presume from Colin. The card has a picture of the flowers that once had been on the table. They discuss this issue a little and put it to the back of their minds as they prepare to leave the ship and look for the place of power.   They need to follow the river. The only clue they have so far is to follow the river until they can go ‘down’ near the two large mountains. They consider who they will take with them. They want to split up Enna and Kosines, and to curb the protective behaviours from Enna towards Erin. Having some of the officers go with Erin and Karl could help with this adjustment period. They will need Kosines or Ten for healing capability.  
  At 7:45am Lily and Xeldarix arrive. Xeldarix is disappointed that the greenhouse isn’t magically built. She heads upstairs to her room while Lily has breakfast with Fargrim. They talk about Xeldarix and the issue the history lessons have brought about. They also talk about the ex-slaves that Karl sent them and about where they are at the moment. Fargrim still pushes for Uqaviel to learn to be a better teacher and wants Lily to check in about that. Then they head off.  
  Karl has decided that they will take Wave, Kosines and 8 crew members. They will have the remaining crew map the island once the place of power has been found and secured. Erin talks with Kosines about coming with them, while Karl talks to Enna about staying on the boat. Karl is able to talk Enna round into staying as he will get Erin to leave her sending stone so they can stay in contact. Also when they have found the place of power there is a chance of having a shake up of the teams so she will get her chance to come along as well at some stage.   After discussions are had, the group gets ready to leave and head off to the island. They will walk instead of taking a row boat.  
  Fargrim heads to his guild to get the Ramslay special recipe. He also gets information about the cooking contest and what is required. Then he goes to the temple of Niera to talk to High Paladin Salma, but she is out about in the city. Fargrim leaves a message for her. Then he heads to the event to get seats.  
  Lily goes to the mage guild and checks in on the people there. They are very scared. She takes 4 of the ex-slaves to go and look for rooms in inns around the city for them. She’ll be back later to talk to the people from Muden about where they are from. Steve will hold the others here for the day but will need them to find other places to stay. However, businesses are overbooked with the festival in full swing right now. So Lily quickly takes them to her guild before her event starts. There she meets Khee and Bailey who have escorted more from Crogwil safely to Brechlen.   It seems the temple is full now and now have to be housed here. This means the inn here will now be very full. They shuffle things around and arrange for cots.  
  Karl, Erin, Kosines, Wave and the 8 crew members start their long hike. Karl ensures everyone knows what the main goal of this is, to know what the risks are with this expedition. Erin has very been explicit about it due to possible scrying but everyone is aware of what it is. They will head for the peaks before looking to “flow down”. They will need to search the river, riverbed and surrounding area carefully once they get to the right area. The islands is about 20 miles wide at its widest. The group has a week worth of food and a lot of exportation equipment. Their walk is fairly quiet as they make their way through, occasionally needing to make their own path.  
  The brawling beast event is held at the port in a warehouse that has been done up for the event. A caged arena has been made to ensure the safety of the crowd. This starts at noon and ends at 2pm.   The Results:
