Session 60: One less Threat Report

General Summary

14th of Anarire 1524 continued     When the group finishes their short rest Karl sets up to start identifying things while Lily and Fargrim continue to explore. Erin stays with Karl and Enna look over the items to value them.   While Fargrim and Lily look around the find Xeldarix’s bag. They go through each of the room to try and find all they can. In the top left library on the top floor Wave finds a secret door. There is a carving on the wall of a skeleton. There is a hand open that comes out of the wall slightly with an open hand. Wave points out where the seam makes it obvious it's a door. They try to put many things in the hand but to no success.   Lily gets creative to get around trapped doors by breaking windows. Hearing this noise Erin and Enna leave Karl with Bartharm to look into, but instead they head to another room to have a private conversation. This conversation is interrupted by Lily, Fargrim showing Karl the skeleton door. The pair move to another room to continue. Karl prompts Lily to look through the star where she sees the writing “Pay the toll or stay in limbo…”. This makes her run off to get the Lolth golden coin. The door accepts it and opens, however the coin disappears when the door is closed later. Behind the door is a mirror with a Portal to the Shadow Plane. They contact the guild and arrange for someone to come help them with this. While waiting groups go back to identifying and searching.   During their search Fargrim, Lily and Wave cut through into two libraries with trapped doors. Fargrim and Lily both agree they should tell Karl as it was often cutting into the back of a bookcase. Karl does briefly join them while he has detect magic up to check a few rooms and look at the Dao dust pile to find some items.   Master Flin Burke and Chip Dale arrive to help with the portal. They take the time to deal with it, and as it closes a Fire Giant and six Azer come through. During the fire Karl makes some dubious decisions about who to exclude for damage in a spell and Chip is badly hurt by the Fire Giant. After the fight Chip is brought to the meeting room to rest while the group goes through the items on the planar invaders. There Flin and Karl identify things while Fargrim stays with them and Lily goes down to see Xeldarix.   Fargrim discusses the idea of giving some of the loot back to the town, before getting Bartharm to go with him to take down the names of those on the coffins. Wave, Erin and Enna are taking the bodies of the thieves out into the sewers.  


Lily has a discussion with Uqaviel before deciding they need the cart. She tells Fargrim she’s going to get it before travelling through the sewers. She tries to avoid a mess of plant stuff and waste, but finds herself going too far South. As she tries to sneak past it, it attacks her. She bests it with the help of a Topaz dragon she summons. A little further along she comes across a creature in the water talking to her mentally. Thankfully Uqaviel seems willing to deal with this creature after it tries to charm Lily. After that Lily runs into an undead creature sucking blood from a man, and after consulting Karl through Fargrim, she sneaks past without engaging it. As Lily reaches the exit she runs into the wererats that told the group how to get through the sewers. In thanks for dealing with the problem they let her pass without a fee this time.  
When Lily eventually returns, they load everything onto the cart with Alfonso to head back to the manor. They arrive at the manor at 2pm and arrive at their training sessions to start at 2:30.  
Karl goes to see his sister before starting some training, getting some apprentices to take in the giant’s armour (that Alfonso and the crew’s helped transport to the forge). The crew leave after that to head for their ship. He learns that his sister has been unstable and emotional since she has woken up. His mother, Clara, is clearly disheartened by it all. Karl distracts her with the giant’s armour while going up to see Saryea.   Talking to Saryea, Karl learns that Saryea had been very close to dying due to the nature of the poison. The clerics had to keep using Spare the Dying until they could deal with the poison. Saryea asks to stay with Karl at the manor since she does not wish to stay in the family home tonight. She is not dealing with the attack, being blind and nearly dying well and seems to need time. Clara had apparently been constantly up there to the point where Saryea lost it and ruined her room.   Karl has Salma contact Steve to get Sam here to remove the curse. He arrives and is able to do so for both Saryea and Salma after a few tries. Karl spends most of his time working with Clara in the forge on the giant’s armour. At 7pm Karl heads back to the manor with Saryea and Alfonso.  
After a quiet four hours of research Fargrim goes up to see June. A tired June is very short with him and tells him she’ll be done with his boots in 11 days. He can check in in 5 days if the items from the inn are available for guild use. Lily goes to see Steve about Uqaviel’s wing. He agrees to help but wants to be quick so he isn’t late for dinner with his family.   Fargrim, Lily and Steve leave the guild at 7pm.  
Everyone arrives back at the manor for 7:15pm. Saryea goes upstairs to put her things away.Lily takes Steve upstairs to see Uqaviel. Steve is able to help Uqaviel and reattach the wing. Afterwards Steve leaves for his own family dinner.   During the dinner the group talks about the possibilities of going to Poden and Fargrim would rather spend time with Galloway instead of doing shopping stuff. Lily also confronts Karl about killing her familiar, which he apologises for and gives her the incense to summon the familiar back.   After dinner Fargrim and Karl have a discussion about the Lolth guild and about Saryea. Fargrim takes it upon himself to go and talk to Saryea while Karl scribes spells. However, he goes to the wrong room and wakes up Lyra and Lila who were getting an early night, which he gets a mouthful for. Afterwards, when Fargrim gets the right room, he tries to get Saryea to open up. She tries to shut the conversation down several times and in the end just shuts the door on him. In response, Fargrim calls out Saryea for her response to being attacked, which gets her fired up and storms away. After a few moments Fargrim follows and eventually finds her out in the garden and continues to push Saryea.   In the end Saryea admits (even if not in so many words or well articulated) she’s not happy with what happened, it wasn’t fair and she just needs a few days. However, she turns the conversation around on Fargrim the moment he lets slip that he can’t be with his family. Then she pushes him a little on that where she has just enough information to continue pushing that.   Everyone heads to bed not long after that.   15th of Anarire 1524   The group wakes up on a warm day to a faint tremor going through the house. Though only Lily and Aeyrn notice. Lily gets up and tries to wake up Xeldarix. Everyone gets a mental telepathic connection during this process. Thankfully most of them pass their saves, but Caramella does not who is feeling overwhelmed with the heat passed to her body. Fargrim finds and helps her out.   Lily gives Friend back to Xeldarix when she is awake which has her all excited and forgetting her nightmare. Everyone meets down at the table for breakfast where Lily gives Caramella a 500g gem to get started on a safe room. Lily communicates with Erin to arrange for her and Enna to come over before Karl leaves to open the chests. Lily and Fargrim head off before Enna and Erin arrive to start their research at 8:30 once Lily has had a moment to quickly catch up with June and check out the alchemy lab. Lily also pays two apprentices to look into the name and runes.   Karl is able to dispel the spell on the chests but trip the second chest’s trap. Thankfully no one is hurt.   Afterwards once everything is identified and priced, Karl heads to the forge to start his training at 9:30am.  
At 4pm Karl’s training is interrupted by Pemri and Brygo that seem to have stopped by the shop. They ask him about the runes. It seems they believe it to be an active dragon’s lair. They do not seem to have a good outlook on the outcome of going down there. When they go to leave Karl asks them about using their island as a meeting place with General Viona. They accept as it would remove the debt owed.  
At 4:30pm, when Lily and Fargrim are finishing up Pemri and Brygo come to see them. They talk about the runes more and have zero desire to be in town if the group goes down there. They believe it to be a black dragon and likely a dragon older than themselves. Black dragons generally do not have a good disposition. They theorise that the madness and runes are to capture slaves to protect the lair. Turn the world around them into the enemy of the victim to manipulate them. Being Gold Dragons with connections with the water they are very uncomfortable with what is below the city.   It turns out that due to the dragons taking off with the information the apprentices were given that they did not get very far and are being pushed for missing a lecture as a result.  
Erin had escorted Karl home from the forge and dinner is had with the group, Erin and Saryea. They discuss Erin and Karl going to Poden while Lily and Fargrim work with Galloway on the thieves guild location. The dragon’s lair is brought up and the fact they won’t be taking anyone who breathes water upset Erin.
