There's already a longer "Continue Working" list on the right when you're on the Dashboard. Adding to the sidebar on the left would clutter it too much.   I do, however, think that a setting to change how many or few articles show up in "Continue Working" on the left sidebar (probably 0-5) would be a net positive all around.

I've lost count of the number of times I've previewed an article, checked a link, been inspired to add more to the linked article because of the previous article related to it, and then had to find my way back via the 'recently updated' page, because the article I was originally working on is no longer the most recent. My system is fairly slow at loading World Anvil pages, so anything to reduce the wait time for loading multiple pages would be a big help.

Only if it would be customizable, or we're given the ability to turn it off altogether. I would much rather have easy access to the other buttons on the sidebar than a list of articles I was last working on--I can just jump to "most recent articles" for that.
