What functionality is missing? What is unsatisfying with the current situation?

  Support for chracter accents natively in the editor. You can't do it without copy/pasting from another source.  

How does this feature request address the current situation?

  Expands the use of CTRL based triggers/hooks to display special characters / accents.  

Summary

  Pretty simple idea: since many fantasy (not to mention real world) languages depend on standard accents, the editors in WA should support them as well. While the implementation could vary greatly, the first notion that comes to mind would be to implement something close to what MS Word supports, where CTRL+Symbol, letter results in an accented letter. It's pretty intuitive--CTRL + :, o creates an o with an umlaut over it, etc. Since the editors monitor for custom CTRL combinations (for example, for H1 through H4 tags, I would assume this would be viable.

Closed due to low support by the end of voting period.   Hello there,   I am sorry but what am I missing here? If you do need alternative punctuation systems on your keyboards, why are you not using and language flip on your keyboard. I have 3 on mine (English, Greek, French) and I can achieve any punctuation I want.   Can someone please contact me on #development-discussion to elaborate please?

    Some support for alternative scripts would be helpful as well; it would be nice to have support for Traditional Chinese characters.

    The US Keyboard is very bare compared to others (came up in discussion on the Development Discussion Channel of the discord).   However, I also recognize that just because the US keyboard is bland and bare, others are not and may be using various commands to bring up their own letters and characters. When the Overlay came out, there was a great deal of concern because the proposed ideas overlapped with the keyboard codes for characters or other tasks.   ideally, having customized keybinds would be best, but I also don't know of any web browser based sites that have such supports (and it would break with every time a new similar feature would come out).   Oh, and long obnoxious altcodes are a *paaaaiiiiin* and a huge reason why I've started having "badly approximated vowel combinations" used in the article names.   Long post short - I support this idea, just have no idea how to make it work without causing issues for people who don't use a US keyboard.
