This might be better executed as new fields in a pre-existing template, rather than a template of its own (we do already have a ton of templates). However, as someone who finds fields in templates to be a great help in actually getting myself writing about the stuff in my head, this would be helpful in whichever execution it gets.
I like the idea of recipes, but as others have said it needs to be carefully considered. Recipes float in some middle ground between documents, blueprints, technologies, and traditions.
I write a LOT about food in my world and this would be highly useful. Recipes are such an accessible way to way to connect to a world. Sure there a lot of human recipes that 'everyone' knows so they are just taken for granted. But what about something like Goblin Stick and Stones Stew with spicy Stinkbug Sauce? Are earthworms optional? Having a specific article type for recipes would be hugely help for someone like me as I mess with recipes a lot. It could also be used for spells, potions, medical or herbal concoctions, even perfumes or poisons. As for the negative votes saying that this can already be done in other ways, I'm sure that's true but for me those ways are just not intuitive. Being dyslexic I find it highly confusing to dig through all sorts of menus trying to cobble together what I'm trying to do.
this could be really useful for developing things like an alchemy system or other systems of creating things in games
I agree with Dinosaur bob, it's a Document. Having a new template tab for recipies would be a great idea.
I don't think a new template is needed. Recipies are Documents. HOWEVER... A new prompt tab for recipies that includes prompts for Ingredients, Preparation Directions, Tools needed, Serving Suggestions, and perhaps "Cultural significance" would definitely be useful!
I would really benefit by this one with my in-depth building of food and cuisine.
I would like to see some version of this too; either as a separate template, or a tab with specific recipe-oriented fields under Document? I have been using the Generic article for recipes, because I don't think the Document template currently fits the need or format I want to use. Namely, I want the ingredients list to appear as Key-Values in the sidebar, perhaps in a highlighted box, and then fields to lay out the steps of creating the recipe. Good idea, DarkChronos! Thanks!
Isn't this the Technology template with the possible addition of the family-tree like structure that will allow for material, item or other technology articles??
I believe recipes are currently under Document. Instead of an entirely new article type, perhaps gaining an extra tab on Document for defining article-specific content would be worth seeing. I disagree with a Family Tree style display (have you ever seen something like that in a recipe?) but sections that collate ingredients and such would serve the same purpose with less dev investment.
I think this is neat. Very niche for what one is doing. However it would be fund to see.
I believe this could be really fun if it had sections like "Technology" as well as materials, tools, and skills. Gotta' have the knowledge to make an engine, not just the parts.
Cool idea. I agree that it would have to be a separate article type, as items can be made in multiple ways, and a recipy can have multiple outputs / by-products. So there wouldn't be a clear one-to-one relation that is needed to add this as expanded functionality to the Item template.
I support the idea of expanding the Item Article. We already have a section "Construction" with fitting prose fields. Being able to list ingredients / parts with an amount and a resulting graph would be a great addition.
Interesting Idea. I support this, but instead of adding a new article type I would expand the functionality of the Item
