Air - Sodose

“Air, air, air” all I could dream of was that sweet substance taunting me just above the surface.

As the terrible beast bore down on me my hope a full breath drained faster than the blood pouring from my wounds. I felt no pain though, only the soul-shattering yearning to inhale. I swam with all my might, ignoring the blood-thirsty creature that clawed at my limbs.

Then I had it, one sweet breath to the stagnant jungle air. The hot and moist atmosphere, which I had hated all my life, soothed my very soul. Then it was taken away again, the predator pulling me under for another bout. As it sunk its teeth into me I felt no pain, only an uncanny gratitude and fulfillment.

“This is how it ends” I thought, and with that final notion I released. The crocodile tore away at my body, but I didn’t car. All I wanted was death, that way, maybe, just maybe, in another life; I could have a breath of that sweet sweet air.
