Mantilla of the Moon on the Water

Wondrous Item

Uncommon

Crafted by Leh'ct Arlathil’ct as a thank you and possibly farewell gift for Matron Mother Ysri Vaerixas of the Deep Spire, this veil incorporates a Drowner's Pearl and teeth taken from a bone construct of shark jaws, as well as locally-sourced silken threads. The white ones were soaked in the waters of the Black Loch along with a holy symbol of Eilistraee, the Dark Dancer, under a careful alchemical process to leech just a little of the silver into the threads, though he was careful to limit it so the symbol itself would be unharmed. He created it to show his gratitude for all that the Matron Mother of the Deep Spire had done for him, in case he did not return from a particular quest or she chose to exile him over his refusal to give up on saving his pet giant wolf spider from Lolth, the Spider Queen.   This silken veil is designed to be worn by a woman as a hair covering, made of a weaving of black and silver threads that give the impression of moonlight reflecting on still black water. Shark fangs serve as hair pins to hold it in place, and a black pearl dangles into the center of the forehead of the wearer.   This functions as a Cap of Water Breathing with the minor property that it also allows the user’s voice to carry as if over a still, calm lake. The shimmering effect, from certain angles, takes on the shape of the moon in its current phase.
