Using an arcane command chosen by the first owner of the item the item will release a shperical darkness of the deepest black for 30 feet. Neither Darkvision nor Devilsight will not penetrate this sphere though devils true sight can pierce the veil as though it were dim light. The item can be thrown to create a sphere other than in the owners hand but there is a 30 percent chance it will chip and become an ordinary obsidian sphere.   The Eclipse Obsidian Sphere requires one night cycle to replenish its ability.

Eclipse obsidian is extremely difficult to mine and process. It is found only in the deepest of mines and is mined exclusively by the Duergar. The obsidian is of the most ancient type and is blacker than the depths of a devils soul. When it is found it is extracted only in the presence of a gray dwarf mage that seeks to trap the darkness of the pit deep within its depths. The artisan that takes the raw ore must process it completely to its final form within the pit and no light present. Many of these incredible artisans are blind in even the dimmest of light from spending most of their time working in the darkest environments their entire lives. The raw obsidian can be crafted into a veritable plethora of objects but the most common are perfect spheres which are known as Eclipse Obsidian Spheres. Other items made in a simlar fashion are more easily chipped causing them to lose their innate capabilities.
