Wyauso: City of Five Roads

Demographics

Wyauso is the largest inland city in Wouraiya. Most inhabitants are Yukuric, specifically Tuhrau/Zjadian, but conquests by foreign powers have paved the way for Keyrit-Welokyi, T'kakou, and Wlitowan settlement. There are small contingencies of Werai and Kauaru spattered across the inner cities, though the Kauaru are much shorter in Tuhra than in Wlitowa.

History

The Yukuric nomads that populated Tuhra had general migration routes across the continent, that eventually became roads. Wyausnolsnuh was formed onto the meeting of five of these routes. These tribes often shied away from the shore due to lack of easy foliage, so they remained and eventually settled closer inland. Nearly all the tribes would cross Wyauso on their travels, so Wyauso only had opportunity to grow. Ample meat, grain, and other nutritional options grew the city immensely. When the Tuhran Empire was created, Wyauso was the only and obvious choice for a capitol.

The Tuhran Empire was soon conquered by the newfound Doyog Pact, and Wyauso had a period of stagnation from several crackdowns by the Wlitowan government. Tuhran culture was stifled and replaced by the slightly-but-noticeably variant Wlitowan culture. After the Eastern Uprising, Wyauso was given more autonomy and rediscovered its niche as a cultural hub. Welkwu, having overshadowed Wyauso at that time in every manner of economic and industrial growth, still used Wyauso as a getaway city for many of its residents.

Tourism

Endemic of Tuhrau/Zjadian custom, Wyauso is a cornucopia of the arts, be they culinary, theatrical, auditory, or visual. Cultural exports from the city spread across the neighboring continents. Each piece of art, each play performed, and each exotic dessert consumed acts as its own miniature advertisement for the city, and so adventurers from these continents flock there to see what all the fuss is about.

Tourists are not expected to move much in Wyauso. While the city itself is vast and sprawling, pockets of restaurants and performance centers are relatively compact, near the north and the south of the town. Those who stay the night at the top of tall towers in the north can just barely see the shoreline, while those in the south dine while looking out across the great expanse of plains. Plays and restaurants are mere minutes' walk from hotels, if not next door. Those who feel particularly lazy can call restaurant food and private performances to their very doorstep, and some individual performance groups make their living acting from door to door.
