Dragon's Meeting

The mountain chain on the eastern border of the Frampian Empire is named for the great dragons of myth Vreathon and Virarion. According to Frampian myth, Vreathon and his sister Virarion ruled the world before mankind rose to prominence. Vreathon and his sister Virarion were arguing over how to share the lands and finally settled on a contest: Vreathon and Virarion would race to encircle their lands, proving how much area they could claim between sunrise and sunset. Vreathon headed west and Virarion headed east, circling enormous swaths of land, but near sunset they had circled back and were flying side by side, trying to edge past each other to claim more territory. Such was the power of their mighty wings that the earth itself was pushed together, forming the tall mountains on the natural border between the domains of the two dragons.   The mountains themselves vary in height, with the tallest set bordering the Winhian Theocracy. The single largest mountain, Dragon's Rest, stands tall above the mountain range on the border with the Principality of Making, but numerous mountain passes on each side of Dragon's Rest make travel possible in the warmer months of the year. Technically the mountain chain extends all the way up to the Kingdom of Atriaspen, but since the mountains are so much smaller there, and since parts of the border is downright flat, this part of the mountains are often ignored when talking about the mountains.   Historically the mountains have acted as natural borders, preventing numerous wars and ending several campaigns of expansion. There are exceptions to this rule, and several wars have entailed bitter conflicts in and around the mountain passes, but compared to the fraught relationship that Frampia holds with it's neighbours to the north, south and west, the people beyond the mountains are often considered friends, or possibly distant cousins.
