Skinrot Fever

17th of Zhwatel, 533

As much as I despise the Church of Progress and the people who make it up, (yes, I know that as a doctor I am technically a member) I cannot deny the strength and incredible advancement that they've made in medicine in the past decade. They've quite literally cleansed the Dhavic plague from Taelsburg to Alanmund. Moreover, they've invented inexpensive medicines to administer to the soldiers of the Bulwark. The most popular that I've seen used is "Durablows". It's an incredibly strong pain-killer that dulls pain for a short amount of time. I've ordered a few doses for myself to analyse.

I've recently began prescribing Durablows to patients of mine that endure severe pain and migraines, testing the waters as it would be. So far in the past few days I've received no complaints from my patients.

My patients have asked me for a higher dosage due to the effect wearing thin. I've also had some patients report that they have been getting rashes and hives alike on their face, neck, and back. Simple side effects that I've recorded, but they seem inconsistent. Very few have reported to me that they've had fevers, but I believe it to be a small illness floating about the city.

I've recently found out that several of my patients have been requesting extra dosages to sell on the street. I, of course, reported them to the authorities. Many have come to me with reports that their skin has began turning darker and letting off a foul odor. I myself have seen that it is mostly on soft tissue and cartilage on the face (nose and ears). I've recorded and reported this after finding out that the people with this "Skinrot Fever", as I'm dubbing it, have been taking normal dosages and show signs of addiction.

Several of my patients that I first prescribed Durablows to have died of this Skinrot Fever. I am not the only doctor to have prescribed it, and I've shared data. Addiction leads to a strange failure of the tissues found in skin and cartilage in the face. The rotting itself eventually infects vital organs. I have requested that the Church stop producing and selling Durablows immediately, for I shall not be responsible for another person's death because of their dangerous medicines. I withdraw my praise of the Church. I believe that this is the way they are attempting to destroy the country and the Bulwark itself. My warnings have gone unheeded.
