Darkbound

The land of Orobo has strong ties to the Underdark, being home to the underground homes of all manner of creatures, friendly and unfriendly alike. There is peace between the dwellers of the Dark and the humans who live on the surface, but it is mostly a peace that comes from having the bare minimum to do with one anothers lands.   Not so for the Darkbound. Found across the entirety of Orobo, but centred mostly in the capital Bonnor, these humans consider themselves closer to the Earth than most. Feeling some kind of kinship with the denizens of the Great Dark, they protest against what they consider to be injustice against the subterrestrial races - folk tales of goblins stealing children, dwarves being too tight with money, drow killing humans for sport and other such stereotypes being their main focus. They wish to one day live in the caverns, and as such often spend time blindfolded during the day, in extreme cases even becoming nocturnal to "escape" the sun.   Worship of Soldas the Great Dark is common among the Darkbound, and they believe firmly that if they can convince others to follow their religion then all humans can move to their rightful place in the Underdark. Of course, this fails to take into account that without being integrated into an existing society down in those deep caverns, the likelihood is that humanity would be devoured by one of the innumerable horrors that dwell in the dark - a fate that befalls many Darkbound who take pilgrimage underground. Surviving Darkbound, however, celebrate these people as having returned to their rightful place and will become angered if it is suggested that they most likely perished. One such example is the supposed First Darkbound, Lady Thedren - a minor noblewoman of Bonnor who lived roughly a hundred years ago and disappeared into the caverns in the nearby mountains after giving an impassioned speech about the wonders that await in the Dark.
