Ghost Nest

After the conquest of Kheadal, lizardfolk and dragonborn began to notice a spike in infertile or unhatched eggs. Many of the scaled brethren began to think that Menelian forces had poisoned them, or cursed their broods. To put an end to these rumors, scholars and doctors invested deep research into the cause and found that a common food ingredient had been sheltering a common reptilian condition for thousands of years.    Before the forces of Sondomenel arrived in Kheadal, it was extremely rare for any eggs to be left unhatched, and was seen as a great travesty. After the arrival of Menelian forces, a vast collection of reptilian folk noticed over 50% of loss within their broods. This was the cause of a great scare, almost leading to war between Sondomenel and Kheadal before the cure was found.    This disease is also known as 'The Scaled Heartbreat', 'The Cold Nest', and 'Empty Brood'.

Transmission & Vectors

This condition is genetic and passed down from generation to generation, with carriers being both male and female.

Symptoms

This condition only effects the reproduction ability of reptilian folk. It causes eggs to be unfertilized or weak, leading to less hatched eggs in their broods.

Treatment

The best treatment for this condition is the consumption of Pyza, a wild swamp onion that grows bountifully in Kheadal. The nutrients in Pyza allows for eggs to be a lot healthier.    The consumption of Pyza does not rid the body of the condition but aids in the development and fertilization of eggs.

Affected Groups

All Lizardfolk, Kobalds, and Dragonborn, are possible carriers to this condition. Any creature that lays eggs has the possibility to be effected.

Epidemiology

This condition is genetic and is transfered from parent to young. Male cariers are just as common as female, but often go undetected because they aren't dirrectly laying eggs.

History

After the Conquests of Truth, lizardfolk, dragonborn, and kobalds, noticed a sudden drop in some of their brood sizes and hatchings. Far fewer eggs were birthed and even fewer hatched. The whole country of Kheadal blamed the Menelian forces and were ready to go to war, if a sudden cure was not found.    Menelian doctors and scholars soon discovered that the ingestion of Pyza had been suppressing the condition for centuries. When the wild onion was removed for more "civilized" food, introduced by Sondomenel, the disease began to show signs within the reptilian communities. As a show of good will, Menelian forces worked with the lizard folk to begin cultivating an farming Pyza on a vast scale to combat the condition.

Cultural Reception

Among the scaled communities, this condition was seen as a great travesty. The lands of Kheadal are treaturous, and most children born within in it don't see their second birthday because of predators or other dangers. To lose young, before they even hatch is detrimental to the society of Scales.   Many times the cure for the condition is the frequent consumption of Pyza, but past victims of the disease are still followed by a great saddness.  In the rare chance, that Pyza does not aid in the health of eggs, other nest mothers offer runts or 'defected' children to these lone nesters.
