Cryptog Inscription Pen

Overview

Part chisel, part pen, these magical inscription tools, commonly known as Inscribers, are used for engraving the arcane runic language known as .   Originally these tools were just a series of very fine chisels and hammers, but they discovered that a better tool for the writing the Cryptogs could be made.   The tools themselves are full of minute magical energy pathways that power them. Allowing them to make perfect cuts into the arcane forged metals, leaving a pristine, shining silver imprint on the metal. The thaumaturgical conductivity of this practice is over a hundred times more effective than the old way of doing it. This allows more nuanced control and intricate effects to be generated.

Creation

Around twenty-five years after the discovery of Cryptogs, the first Inscriber was created in the year 182. Raywer Jeck, Artificier third class, was tired of the potential of Cryptog inscription being squandered by inexact tools. He recorded that most of the creations to that point leaked over half their magical energy into nothing. This was dangerous, in his opinion, and a massive waste of energy.   He was a member of the Dept. of Originality in the in the Queendom of Vreabia and received permission from his department head to indulge his research and development. Once his work showed promise, they gave him a grant to continue his work as long as the College itself gained ownership over schematics of the device once he finished.

Design and Construction

The device itself resembles an overly thick pen with indents for the fingers to grip. They make the nib from cut and shaped Ironscales, the material known for its exceptionally hardy nature and ability to conduct magic. It has been able to cut through nearly all metals, with a magical charge it becomes almost trivial how easy it is to do so.   They make the main body of the inscriber from a tube of steel which is a completely magically inert metal. Inside of which is a series of Mayin plates with the Cryptogs that power the device inscribed on them.   Where the fingertips would rest is a series of small arcane infused iron discs that allow the user to channel magical energy into the device to power it.
