Port-au-Prince

"Port-au-Prince, capital of the Black Republic of Haiti."

Demographics

Mostly Africans, with some part-French.

Government

It is currently ruled by a president after Haiti's independence in 1804 from France.   Despite being supposed to be a democratic republic, there are disgruntled fighters who often caused military coups.

Infrastructure

Despite being the capital of Haiti, Port-au-Prince has only average infrastructure at best.   Potholes in roads are a common complaint and the road workers usually don't bother to patch them up fully.   After the Gravelot affair, the city is currently recovering from its bloody battles. Several groups of Tangguo missionaries were dispatched to help, but they got embroiled in disagreements over the Tangguo's mostly Anglican beliefs and Haitians' French Catholic influence.

Guilds and Factions

At the time of Monsieur Gravelot's overthrow, the Cacaos insurgents were a strong faction that rivaled the French-Haitian militia in strength and determination.

History

Once a French town to house enslaved Africans, the citizens rebelled and broke free to create their own nation. Port-au-Prince was then chosen as the capital.   Monsieur Dessalines was the first president until his assassination. Gravelot was the next to step up, not knowing his line would go extinct.

The Gravelot Affair

In 1815 several factions but mostly the Cacaos, dissatisfied with Monsieur Gravelot's rule as president, launched an attack and razed the town.   One of the reasons they attacked, according to them, was he was an indecisive leader. Though in actual fact it appears that Haiti was in a power struggle between the French, mixed citizens, and Africans.   Monsieur Gravelot was killed, and his daughter Sestrina vanished into the ether. Only a Tangguo diplomat last had contact with her before she vanished from the Mexican hotel he helped her get to.   After the Gravelot family was driven to extinction, Port-au-Prince was forcibly occupied by Tangguo naval detachments that helped the French quash the civil war.   In 1835, the Tangguo naval support left, and the French have started trying to rebuild the city from the ashes.
