The Known Galaxy

The Known Galaxy is an encyclopedia on the thousands of star systems known by the Federation of Kartika to harbor humans, or sapient forms of life created or uplifted by humans. At present, Kartikan scientists are aware of at least 9,976 star systems in the Milky Way that humans either call home or have influence over. This is by no means a complete catalogue of every star system, or even human society; there are estimated to be thousands of communities, either residing near star systems that have not been explored by Kartikan probes or communicated with us, or living somewhere in the interstellar void.   This encyclopedia is produced and maintained by collaboration between the Department of Knowledge and the Development of Interstellar Relations, as well as several private and non-private organizations, on behalf of the Federation of Kartika. Data in this encyclopedia is largely obtained by scientific probes and/or information received through signals; because of that, data on the almost 10,000 star systems known to us will be outdated. In most cases by a few years or decades, but some signals have taken centuries to reach Kartika.   For anyone outside of the Federation of Kartika, all dates will be based on the Kartikan Standard Calendar.
