The Twin Moons of Alwaus

The world of Alwaus is orbited by a set of two astrological planetoids. The two moons of Alwaus (affectionatly referred to as The Mother and The Daughter) orbit the world in close unison - completing their orbits approximately once every ten days. The two moons orbit at a distance of approximately 240,000 miles from the world's sea level. Besides forming the foundation of The Eternal Empire's ten day based weekly calendar, the two moons have significant cultural impacts among every race is Alwaus - often forming religious or mythological importance with the younger races of Alwaus.

Geography

While some of the more primitive races in Alwaus still rely on personification or myth to describe and define the nature of the twin moons, astronomers within Alvantes and Stolzetürm have long since dismissed such notions as superstition and have instead identified the moons are barren, spherical bodies of land that circle the planet in a stable orbit. The moons are of different sizes, with the larger of the two (Luna Major, or The Mother) hosting a radius of approximately 1000 miles with the smaller body (Luna Minor, or The Daughter) having a much smaller raidus of only 350 miles. (There is some academic dispute is regards to the exact measurements of the orbiting bodies and the methods used to conduct them, as such all figures given in regards to size and distance are based on the medium average of the currently accepted hypothesizes.)    Luna Major's orbit is in equilibrium with that of the planet itself, so that is is constantly reflecting the sun's light back towards the planet - never leaving the "full moon" stage ensuring at least some visibility at night for most species in Alwaus. Luna Minor on the other hand, rotates around the planet a rate much faster than the planet's normal rotation. The moon rotates through a complete lunar cycle in almost exactly ten days, going from it's invisible "new moon" state on the 1st day of the week before eventually transitioning into a "full moon" on the fourth and fifth days respectively. Luna Minor then begins to work through the cycle again before eventually striking "new moon" again on the 10th of each week.
