The Anakari Dead Dream Code

Centuries ago, and far to the south of Bedlam and across the great Sea of Horrors, was a kingdom called Anak-aron-Ik (it's people are known as the Anakari). The kingdom was once the wealthiest and most advanced in the world, rich in knowledge, with a navy that to this day has no rival. The kings and queens, holding the titles Rameshi (King) and Ramasha (Queen), were mummified in an ancient rite called "Isha Ima Kahl," translated as "the way of the drowning moon." They, all all those of the ruling class, were then entombed in pyramidal structures called "Ha-Mon-Al." These tombs were then loaded with treasure, riddled with traps, and sealed, presumably for all time.   As the centuries passed, these tombs were raided with varying degrees of success. Rumors began to abound that the mummified remains of the Rameshiis and Ramashas, reanimated by ancient curses and magical spells, were seen in the shadows of the kingdom. They would feed upon the living, drawing their blood and essence until they were again fleshy, breathing creatures. Their power was great and their appetite was tremendous. When they were again whole, the became powerful regents, land owners, bankers, and even rulers, buffeted in their greatness by their longevity and cunning. These creatures were called "Kar-La-Ram," or "The Returned Kings."   Pliney the Scientist, a great explorer of Beldam's past, once travelled to Anak-aron-Ik in search of the pyramidal tombs and the secret magic of the Al-ankari, the royal priests of the Rameshi. Pliney discovered an ancient, lengthy codex written a bizarre and unknown code not resembling any known Anaki language. The code was comprised of symbols made of glyphs resembling creatures not then known, surmised to be from realms beyond the physical plane. This code was named by The Most Illuminated Church as "The Na-aron-Pash," or "The Dead Have Dreams." Together, both tomes comprise the "Anakari Dead Dream" code.   Scholars and scribes of the Most Illuminated Church worked tirelessly for 20 years to decode the strange script, to no avail. Then, a Anakari shipwreck was discovered after a legendary storm during the reign of Habarish, Most Meek. A search of the wreck uncovered a parchment that contained a cipher, now know as "Il-Far-Ika" or "The Dreams Never Sleep." The parchment was tremendously useful in decoding a fair amount of 'The Dead Have Dreams' codex.   The text appears to describe some of the rituals of 'the way of the drowning moon,' which detail the Anakari mummification process. Some of the chapters also detail spells, incantations, and curses relating to the animation or re-animation of the dead and the cycle of death and the journey into the afterlife. A Most Illuminated Church scribe, known as Porl Simon, was the first to learn of a section of the codex called "Sinking the Ramashi Moon into Pools Most Dark." It was believed this chapter would reveal spells and rituals that could be used to force a "Kar-La-Ram," or reanimated mummy of Anakari, to cross over to the darkened realm, forever separated from the physical world. Unfortunately, the "Dreams Never Sleep" cipher was stolen from the Helsa monastery. A rumor persists that it may be in the library of a undetermined, ancient vampire of Bedlam.
