Emeritus Gas

Emeritus Gas is a naturally occuring gas rich in an element called Emeritum. This gas is found only in Beldam and mined from caverns near the settlement of Browning. The gas is used commonly to manufacture a vast array of solutions including poisons, toxins, elixirs, potions, and medicines. One of its primary uses, however, is as a fuel.   The scientists of Beldam, including the Byronne College of Advanced Chemistry, have used Emeritus gas to develop a fuel for powering engines which take advantage of catastrophically high octane explosions. The physicists of the Byronne College sought a way to open dimensional doors to the dark realm. Leveraging the potency of Emeritus gas, they were able to power their greatest invention, "The Blanchette Configuration." This large and unsettling device relies on several gravitational magnets that spin at an alarming rate in contradictory arcs, creating a gravitational vortex. The obnoxiously volatile nature of highly refined Emeritus gas, can create micro-explosions so powerful, that the magnets can move in speeds approaching that of light itself.   The experiments continue to this day as some setbacks have occurred resulting in horrific and unnatural violations of time and space. In the meantime, Emeritus gas is used as a fuel for artificial lamps, power plants, generators, and even machinery used by some, supposedly, to create life from dead matter. Emeritus gas continues to fuel abborhent experiments, manipulation of the laws of physics, and even tearing holes into other dimensions.   It is considered generally forbidden to use the gas for such extreme purposes. 25 years ago, the warship Duran-Bridget disappeared into the western sea, presumably due to a massive explosion powered by an Emeritus gas device. The ship is reported to have reappeared 100 miles away on the southern tip of Beldam, appearing out of nowhere. When the ship was boarded by the Provincial Navy, sailors were found to be fused into the ship itself. Others were seen flickering in and out of sight. A handful of the Duran-Bridget sailors were rumored to have appeared suddenly, two years later, in a Gemmingtown tavern, unaware that anytime had passed since the Emeritus powered device was engaged.
