Gumara

Gumara was a mountainous region wedged between the Erabaxi steppes sprawling to the west and mountains to the east. As a traveler rode from the steppes, grassland gave way to rolling hills. These in turn, became forests scattered on rocky cliffs, then alpine meadows, and then the mountains themselves. Several large valleys and passes dotted the Gumara mountains, allowing for trade between the tribes of the steppes and the more settled regions of Yarnala, Bandara, and Mahadas to the south. The mountains themselves reached thousands of feet into the sky, but even these impressive feats of the gods were dwarfed by the enormous eastern mountains.   Much of the region was dominated by meadows with sparse vegetation cover, along with the occasional forest. Wildflowers and shrubs were frequent sites in the fields. Lower elevations were dominated by oak, birch, willow, among others. Higher elevations, meanwhile, were the territories of pine, fir, and juniper.   Gumara has remained a stronghold of the people other men called the giants. The land was the only place where giants consisted of the population’s majority by the Venian-Satri Wars.   Giants inhabited Gumara for numerous millennia, even before the arrival of men in large numbers. Men brought with them metallurgy, cavalry, and more advanced weaponry. They were also far more numerous than the giants. Conflicts increased after giant clans hailing from the lowlands fled into the mountains after losing too many wars with men. However, despite numerous efforts by men to dislodge them, the giants never lost control of their sacred homeland. Many hundreds of their towns and villages dotted Gumara’s hills and river valleys at the Venian-Satri Wars.   Some of Gumara’s most precious exports included lapis lazuli and emeralds. Large deposits of tin were found in the region, the envy of their neighbors back when bronze was king.
