Axsayarad’s Message to the Diakai City States

The Munasimuna’s message was intended to convince the Diakai city states to surrender and willingly become his subjects.   Tensions between the Diakai kingdoms and city states and the Satri Empire existed ever since the Empire conquered Elir This land - situated in the eastern Insular Sea and across a narrow strait from Diakas itself - was home to numerous Diakai city states. Many of the oldest Diakai colonies were established there, and the religion held tight to its identity. a. War had erupted in Diakas for supremacy of the land and conflict in Elira. A city named Baneroi appealed to Satra for assistance against its enemies, which they obliged. When the Empire defeated the Eliran cities in battle and annexed their territories, it characteristically allowed the local people to maintain their customs and traditional political systems. Unfortunately, cruel tyrants ruled in several cities. To promote stability the Satri supported them with warriors and payments. In other cities, deep-seated political issues exploded. The Eliran Revolt lasted several years, with Diakai cities sending military support. Holmeron provided the lion’s share of that support. As such, when the revolt ended, Satra sought to punish the city for its transgressions. Kamabarya - the Munasimuna at the time - sent an army and fleet to Holmeron. The thirty-thousand strong army met a Holmerian force half the size met at the Battle of Avestion. It was a disastrous defeat for the Satri. Kamabarya planned vengeance, but died before his plans were realized. Axsayarad, his son and successor, planned for twelve years before taking action. He set out from the imperial heartland at the head of an army. Men and horses were conscripted from across the empire and marched west. When finally amassed in Elira, the Munasimuna’s host numbered two hundred thousand warriors, thousands of horses, and countless camp followers and support. Once there, he ordered local scribes to compose a message for the Diakai city states. Hundreds of messengers rode forth and sailed across the Insular Sea, carrying the King of King’s words.   Many city states offered gold, wood, and water, surrendering to the Satri Empire. Others firmly rejected the message and killed the messengers.
