The Twin Moons Artest and Havarsh

Tamiya has a many many orbiting celestial body. The two main moons of Tamiya are Artest and Havarsh. These two moons orbit Tamiya exactly 180 degrees out from each other so one is always visible in the sky day or night. While most cultures still measure time of day based on the sun cycle they measure their years based on the orbit of the moons. The moons orbit once per year and as such have a profound effect on the weather of the planet.
The moons play major roles in nearly every major culture on Tamiya both past and present. Many cultures Warship the moons as gods.

Geography

These Moons orbit Tamiya about 38 degrees off the equator. Artest appears bright white in the sky and a bit smaller than Havarsh. Havarsh on the other hand appears red in the sky, unlike Artest however Havarsh appears larger but is missing a large chunk making it appear non round even to the bare eye.

With an orbital period of one year the twin moons draw a very large tidal surge each. Coastal water levels can change by as much as 30 meters which has led to many cities using either teired docks or floating docks.

Tidal surges this large cause the weather to change so that the Cycle of the seasons tends to follow the tidal surge.

Fauna & Flora

With Two moons orbiting 180 degrees out this has had an interesting effect on the plant and animal life of Tamiya. Of particular interest is Marine life and Avian species.

Having two moons means Tamiya has effectively two tidal systems but as the moons orbit the planet at such a slow rate Marine life on coastlines tends not to setup a permanent living location instead favoring staying mobile. However a few species do stay in a single location and contain large internal reservoirs to retain salt water.

Most species that migrate tend to follow the moons around the planet this leads to cities having predictable patterns of birds and marine life pass through throughout the year. in some cases this leads to citys being overrun for a few days to a few weeks by birds or ports plugged with varies species of fish or other marine life.

History

A common theme in the various cultures of Tamiya are that Artest and Havarsh is that they are referred to as siblings. Often with Havarsh being referred to as the brother and Artest as the sister.

It is unknown why Havarsh appears to be missing a large section of the planetoid. The missing section is not jagged and rough, it's infact smooth and cylindrical. As it predates most historical records however some astronomers have postulated that whatever astronomical event resulted in this had a large part to play in why most ancient Commiforms predating the Quiet years no longer seem to work. What is known is that ruins predating the Quiet years seem to depict the two moons as both being full planetoids without missing sections. Some ruins depict other smaller planetoids but as there are are no other planetoids of note in orbit it is thought that these are comets or asteroids.

It is only recently that some of the science behind the Electromagnetic forces exerted by the twin moons has begun to be understood by the nation of Fereyta. The forces have been known of for thousands of years however and were thought to be the sibling moons fighting over Tamiya. Those forces became the underpinnings for the Commiform Devices commonly found in the possession of the people of Tamiya.

Scentendria warships the two moons as gods. Havarsh is warshipped as a war god and Artest as his sister that works to prevent her brother from going to war. The forces the moons exert that allow Commiforms to work are thought to be the forces of the brother pulling to go off to war and the sister pulling back to keep her brother in place. Their alchemy and magic often is designed as manipulations of the electromagnetic forces exerted by the moons.

Fereyta takes a more Pragmatic view of the planets are has many scholars working tirelessly to understand the nature of the forces exerted by the moons and how to better harness these forces to improve day to day life. life in the large cities of Fereyta is very easy due to this but even smaller villages reap benefits from the technology making use of this as an example the system of waterways and lift pumps driven off the changing electromagnetic fields of the moons means nearly every farm in Fereyta has excelent irrigation and thus the nation suffers very little consequence from droughts.
