Avalon

Avalon (pronounced /ævəˌlɒn/) is a trans-dimensional island that appears on the seas of Poraile. No one knows how to summon this island, as only a select few are allowed upon its shores. After the fall of Camelot, the island has been barely seen and the entry criteria only known by those from ancient times.   It is the legendary island where the sword Excalibur was forged and also the final resting place of King Arthur of Camelot.

Localized Phenomena

Avalon has a unique soil filled with aether that gives all that touches it increased life and is responsible for the island's legendary infinite bounty. The source of such power is said to slumber deep in the island's core, which also allows it to pass through the dimensional planes according to its whims. It is traditionally a fey island, so it's said that it goes to the dimensional plane where faeries came from, though it can no longer be confirmed.

History

The isle of Avalon has long been associated with the dimension of the fey, the rumoured birth place of faeries before they fell from the stars. Some of them came through these migrating islands but most faeries that came from Avalon have since stayed there. Power between them has fluctuated over the years - as common among their kind - with rarely enough time for any family to form a dynasty, even should they want to.    A woman came there long ago, having been saved from a shipwreck by landing on the on the island. The ruling faerie - Gairdígloine - allowed her to stay on the condition that once she left she would never return. She kept to this request, even though the fruits of the garden were plentiful and the weather always fair.    Instead, a powerful wicca named Morgan le Fay arrived at Avalon many years later, claiming to be the daughter of Gairdígloine. They didn't believe her and only would be convinced if she were able to defeat them in a battle of the arcane. They fought but in the end Gairdígloine was the victor, but recognised she must have been related to the fey to have such power. In the end, Morgan left the island and promised to come back when she had improved.    Upon her return, she successfully defeated Gairdígloine and became the ruler of the isle of Avalon along with her coven, the Nine Sisters, each themselves believed to be related to the fey. They to this day serve as Avalon's rulers and guardians, forbidding entry to those they deem unworthy by keeping it hidden in the fey dimension for most of the year. Some of the only known times this has changed was when Arthur Pendragon visited, the last time being upon his death. Common knowledge states he was buried there upon his tragic death after the Battle of Camlann, though some still whisper that the King of Camelot will return when the land is in strife once more...
