Mothara Island

“Great care is no defence against fate”
The island is far to the southeast of Nithira, just off the coast of the Mothara mainland. The island has a central peak and dense overgrown forest full of unknown life and mystery.
Throughout the ages, curious travellers have tried, and failed, to dock onto the land that begs to be seen and explored. The sea that is surrounding the island is highly contaminated, full of bubbling radioactive substances that dissolve all known material. Iron, steel, gold, titanium, all of it ending up in a thick liquified gloop, bubbling and spitting. Some have tried to use flying apparatus to traverse the island, but the smog that seems to surround the island is a scientific anomaly that has yet to be explained. The air is thick with chemicals and pollutants that is deadly if inhaled, and even navigation systems and compasses seem to experience unusual interference when close to the islands shoreline.
Those who travel to this island heed warnings and cautionary tales from the locals who live on Mothara mainland, suspicion and myth having planted itself deep within Mothara culture. Many who attempt the perilous cross of the sea, never return.

Geography

A dense forest cloaks all around the shoreline of the island, creating a soft green barrier of leaves and moss. There is a large mountain that peaks just above the treetop, also covered in moss and vegetation. There is a small river that flows through the centre, snaking around the mountainside and falling into the peak like a waterfall, plunging deep within the core.

Ecosystem

Not much is known about the creatures that inhabit Mothara island. There is, however, a myth that a large malevolent creature slumbers deep within the mountain. The smog that covers the air surrounding the island is so thick and dense that explorers have never really been able to get a good enough idea about the kind of biological life, if any, can even survive. The water source seems to be completely undrinkable and toxic to every lifeform. But there are lights and shadows that seem to dance against the moonlight when caught through footage or telescope. These shapes only further drive into the mystery of the location.

Localized Phenomena

Over the years, many boats, ships, and aircrafts have gone missing or mysteriously crashed into the toxic sea that surrounds the island. Some people believe this anomaly to be caused by the prominent levels of radiation, but other believe it is caused by the creature that lives deep within the mountain.  The thick smog covering the area is highly acidic and there has been known to be radiation storms within the clouds above.
