The Jade Orb

The one sure fire way to tell the cold weather has arrived is by seeking the arrival of the Jade Orb. When the twin moon arrives, you can bet your boots she has brought the cold weather with her. Some say she creates the snow and biting winds, but those are old wives' tales, my son. The twin moon has no more power over the weather than a bird has over the spring. But just as you know the spring has arrived when the birds return with their song, you can know the winter has come when the Jade Orb appears low in the sky. Mark my words son, follow her lead, make sure you get your crops in by the next evening, and you'll never be surprised.
  • Winslow, Farmer on the Aurorean Plain
  • Suleria's second moon only appears during the long winter months. No one knows why it behaves this way, or what god or spirit moves it, but you can be sure that as soon as its white face appears in the sky, the cold days are starting. No one knows why the white moon is referred to as the Jade Orb, it is simply one of those things that have been lost to antiquity, and will likely never be understood by mortals.   Only in Shalden is the moon's odd behavior explained. They refer to it as the Dragon's Eye, and believe that it is the eye of the White Dragon, looking down upon his new domain. It is considered bad luck to do anything under the eye of the White Dragon, and most people stay inside after dark during the winter months. It is Al-Savor, Vi-Serin's evil counterpart, and it only wishes harm upon those who come beneath its gaze. The departure of the twin moon during the first days of spring is celebrated with festivals all across the world.
