Zaakra Item in Misremembered Realms | World Anvil

Zaakra (Dhakira)

"Could you imagine what would be possible with such a device! You could study important events as if you were there at your leisure! It would revolutionize scholarly study!"
"That's all well and good, but you're thinking too small. Could you imagine if Garden of Delights was written with it!?"
— Two Candlekeep scribes

This unique artifact is a tool said to be used by an ancient guardian who feared loosing his memories as he aged. The story goes that, believing it was of great import to the world that his knowledge not be lost lest some great evil should befall the world he used it to record his life and memories into a tome so that they could not be permanently lost. Given that it has been so long that no one even remembers his name and the world seems to be getting along the same as always, the book is largely believe to be nothing more than a legend. Instead it is believed that if he existed, he was simply a very vain person, likely a noble or a wizard, who thought himself much more important than he was.
The device is believed to be a quill or pen of unremarkable appearance. When used it will imbue the written words with a magic imprint of the author's thoughts and memories. At a cursory inspection, the writing appears to be illegible, however with enough time spent poring over and studying the script the scribbles resolve themselves into words in their native tongue and memories start to play through their mind as if they are living through the events, sometimes as an observer, and sometimes as a participant. If such a thing exist, it is amazing indeed. Though they have tried, no wizard, artificer, or any other magi has managed to create such a thing, or discover how it could be possible.
