Safreen Ethnicity in Misremembered Realms | World Anvil

Safreen

The Safreen are a nomadic people surviving in the mostly desert region of Sindar. They are hardy by nature and respect strength and endurance. In trade they are harsh though fair negotiators who rarely take a loss on a trade, but also will not give less in a trade than what they think something is worth, which doesn't always match up to what the person they are trading with thinks it is worth.
They are friendly and hospitable to most foreigners who visit their lands as long as they are treated with respect as well, though they sometimes treat them almost as children who have not yet full grown and still need looking after. This attitude is somewhat a reflection of the fact that most foreigners are not used to surviving in a place like Sindar and do indeed need loking after.

Culture

Common Dress code

Both the men and the women in Safreen society most commonly wear loose flowing robes trimmed with heavy wool weave, itself embroidered with intricate geometric patterns, to help protect them from the sun and heat of the day.

Art & Architecture

Being nomadic, the Safreen carry their homes with them in the form of tents as they travel with their herds. These low tents are woven by hand with geometric patterns running across them. They are made of wool from sheep and goat hair loosely woven together so that they allow air to pass through in the hot months to keep them cool, and any smoke to get out. In the rainy season the fibers swell up and the tent becomes waterproof, keeping them dry.
Though nomadic, they have two settlements, one of which is known as Ashamaal and is known for it's raucous open market and entertainment district. The other is known as Almusder which is known for it's trade of silver needle extract that is produced there. Both are also used as way stations and sometimes places to recover if they contract a long term illness or injury.
