Halfling Pie Carts

Heralded by the jingling of bells and the blowing of horns, the Halfling Pie Carts travel the lands of the west selling pies and other pastries to the hungry people of Lerias.   Designed by the famed Halfling chef, Lenzo Jubarik, the Pie Carts resemble halfling sized wooden covered wagons with a large clay oven built into the rear. The carts are pulled by a team of four ponies, and manned by a team of at least 6 halfling bakers.   As the carts move through the countryside, the skilled bakers gather materials from the lands they travel through and turn them into high quality halfling baked goods. This keeps the halfling bakers on their toes and makes the goods available at each stop unique.   When a Pie Cart arrives at a new village, a barker drives attention and interest from the people as the baked goods are put on display for sale. These Barkers, many of which are bards in training, will sing, dance, juggle and play music to draw the attention of perspective customers.   Once the goods are prepared, the outer wall of the wagon is opened and folded down to create a merchant's stall. The bakers then sell their goods until all their customers are satisfied or they run out of materials, whichever comes first.   While each Cart's crew have their own paths that they use to travel the land, occasionally two pie carts arrive in a village at the same time. Per Halfling custom, this begins a contest between the two crews called a Baker's Battle. A Baker's Battle begins with the crews' Barkers competing in a song battle where the promote their own crews creations while insulting those of their competition.   While the song battle occurs, the baking crew are hard at work creating the most delicious and visually attractive food possible. Per custom, these creations are given to the people of the village for free so that the villagers can judge the best creations. Once the winner has been determined, the losing crew surrenders ingredients to the victor to make up for what was lost during the contest. After which time, the losing crew moves off to let the winners have sole claim to the customers in the village.
