Adventurer's Charter

Originally spread by the Church of Mittierim, many of the governments of Lerias has begun requiring Adventuring groups to file charters with the government to authorize their adventuring activities.

Purpose

The main purpose of the Adventurer's Charter is to officially recognize adventuring groups that are active within each kingdom. In the kingdoms that recognize the Charter, it legalizes the adventuring groups salvage rights from ruins and those who are signatories on the charter are held to specific laws governing adventurers.   Adventuring groups without properly filed charters can be targets by local lords for numerous crimes and often face heavy tax penalties or assess seizure if discovered to be rogue companies.

Document Structure

Clauses

The main clauses that are outlined in an adventuring charter are the establishment of the group, their symbols and tabards, operating area and general purpose.   Many Adventuring Charters also count as contracts between the individual members of the party specifying the responsibilities of each member as well as detailing the division of treasure from their activities.

Caveats

Without fail, the main caveat of the adventurer's charter is that their establishment is contingent upon the approval of the local nobility and is instantly cancelled upon members being found guilty of any High Crime, excepting those that are captured and handed over to the proper authorities by the members of the Adventuring Group.   Different Kingdoms may add addition Caveats, but this is more the exception than the rule.

Publication Status

While there are no official routes of publication for Adventuring Charters, there is actually a thriving collectors market among the rich and powerful for the original charters of famous adventuring groups. These collectors will pay incredible amounts to recover original documents of particularly historically impactful groups. In one particular instance in Fetesca, an adventuring group, the Brotherhood of Page Turners, was founded purely to seek out these type of documents to sell to collectors.
