Atlantean Binding Balm

Atlantean Binding Balm is not natural to Midgard, but was discovered when the Elvish factions of the Faefolk abandoned this realm for the vast world known as ‘Atlantis.’ They found themselves in an alien realm created by melding magic and science. To their dismay, the metals used in creating this world’s structures burned them on direct contact. Though magic fields noticeably reduced the reaction, the early days were difficult and the constant exposure caused many Elves to fall sick with Ironbite. Iron-infected injuries would also still grow to fatal levels; more slowly than on Midgard, but with a tenacious determination.
In an effort to combat this debilitating affliction, the Elves scoured their new world for medical supplies. Their expeditions were fraught with peril, as translating the ancient language was slow and it was often dangerous to activate machinery or tools without proper instructions.
Eventually, their perseverance was rewarded when they discovered the Binding Balm; a unique topical solution that attracts and binds with iron, absorbing it from any wounds or infected areas. Once properly identified and confirmed as a medical solution, the Elves dispatched scouts to other stations within Atlantis to locate more Binding Balm. However, the vast space between stations within the sphere of Atlantis meant that finding more balm could take a very long time and the current supply had to be used sparingly.
Unfortunately, many attempts at replicating the balm failed, as the Elves lacked the ability to fully understand the available medical equipment. Though they were wise in ways of magic, the technological components of Atlantis confounded the original migrant generation. Life was strenuous for the early expedition, but the Binding Balm made survival possible, and eventually, scouts returned with more medical supplies, books, and technical manuals.
New knowledge and longevity allowed the Elves to understand the built-in informational databases, which opened the entire world of Atlantis to them. It stunned them to learn that they now lived on but a few of the many ocean stations orbiting an artificial star at the core of the inside-out metal planet.
The Binding Balm allowed the Elvish species to survive and thrive within the new world, but even then, life was never easy on Atlantis.
