Escoda's Bloodied Quill

Escoda's Bloodied Quill is a historical artifact of the Irocai people. It was used by General Escoda, a scribifant who only wrote using the blood of his fallen enemies.

History

Escoda was the top general of Irocai leader Andalesko, the leader during the Irocai's most militarily aggressive period around 980 AN. During this period the Irocai drove a number of groups off their ancestral lands and claimed much of what would become modern-day Irocra. The two were a perfect match--Andalesko seeking the power and glory that came with spreading his influence and Escoda taking grim satisfaction from the bloody results of his wars.   Escoda's reputation arrived to a place long before his army ever did. He was known for showing no mercy for stragglers of the enemy who couldn't evacuate before his arrival. After a battle, he would send someone out to harvest corpses that could be drained of blood to use as ink when writing reports to Andalesko. He saw it as a way of proving that his exploits were not a lie and that the effect of his spell script would be strengthened.   After the surprise lack of bloodshed involved with taking over the Subsah, Escoda chose to retire and settle in the area that would eventually become Teneleva. His preoccupation with using other's blood to write with did not go away and he would pay others to drain some of their blood for his own use. Archaeologists have uncovered human remains in his cellar, suggesting he many have also kept prisoners to use for their blood.

The Quill

Construction

The quill itself is wholly unremarkable--it was made made using a dark blue feather from a strel bird and a nib of platinum designed by a cregean to hold more ink. What sets it apart is that the metal has been stained pink because of the user's choice of ink, something that will never be able to be cleaned off.

Display

An object of awe and horror, Escoda's quill is on display today at the Irocai Cultural Museum in Teneleva.
