The Caves of the Far Wastes

The far side of Lapix Delta-9, known as the Far Wastes by residents, is home to the crumbling ruins of a lost civilization. Present-day scholars are still uncertain of what this lost civilization was doing on the planet. Few clues remain to show if it were for resource mining, trade, or the homeworld of a lost species of sentient beings.

The unique aspect of these ruins is the extensive cave network under the ruins. The cave network covers nearly the entire Far Wastes lands. There have been, at least, four confirmed levels to the cave system. However, experts speculate there may be five to ten levels to the cave system. Archeologists have dated the oldest of the cave system to one hundred thousand to five hundred thousand years before the founders of Talconos arrived on Lapix Delta-9 to establish an outpost.

While some caves were determined to be naturally occurring, there is sufficient evidence that the extensive network that allows for midsize sentient beings to travel the caves was completely sentient-made. Some caverns seemed to have been used to agricultural endeavors and experimental cultivation methods. However, there has yet to be discovered any sign of technologies used by this lost sentient civilization within the cave system.

This brings more questions on what happened to them and if such circumstances are a threat to the continued existence of the inhabitants of Lapix Delta-9.

However, that does not stop the legends and myths surrounding the caves of the Far Wastes. Tales have ranged from famine to the civilization taking to the stars and all technological trace of their existence on the planet. The second is likely as there have been many concerns about the vicious sun at the center of the system consuming Lapix Delta-9.

The tale that gets the most fame is the one where this lost civilization created the extensive, winding cave system to imprison some unknown godlike being. The lost sentient beings had dug too deep and disturb something that should not have been disturbed. They made the cave system to hide what they had done and left the planet in fear of retribution.
