The Siglaeleion (Sig-Lay-Lee-On)
Situated at the base of the Gadrobi Highlands of Vastrya sits the town of Cliffstar, a town shrouded in secrecy and their own unique religion. The people of Cliffstar are generally welcoming and friendly to outsiders, unless they challenge their religion or do anything to The Siglaeleion. It is said that there is something powerful within this chapel, capable of healing any illness and uniting you with the Sun, the God that the Lighthand Clan worship. Permission to use this chapel is restricted to members of the Lighthand Clan however, and none know what is really inside other than the clan.
Purpose / Function
The Siglaeleion was built during the founding of Cliffstar, as a way to honour the Lighthand Clans God, the Sun. The chapel contains a room that directs sunlight down to a single point, where it is said that the pure rays of sun and connection to the one true God can cure any illness. However, you always carry the mark of the Lighthand clan afterwards, with bright glowing light enveloping your hands. People from all over Velaria come to The Siglaeleion as a last resort, to try and cure an illness that would surely kill them. For some reason or another, the cured people tend to stay with the clan after experiencing what is within The Siglaeleion, joining their ranks and worshipping the sun as well. Although most known for the healing properties hidden within, the Siglaeleion also serves as the Lighthand Clans church, where they flock to once a week, different days and time depending on the people to maximise efficiency, to purge their minds of any darkness. The clan believes that darkness and night is constantly trying to take over them, and must visit the Siglaeleion at least once a week to kneel underneath its roof of glass and bask in the concentrated rays of their God. The visits purge the darkness and give them a chance to confess any sins to 'lighten' their soul as well.
Architecture
The Siglaeleion consists of harsh stone walls, in the style of Vastrya, with an open roof made of clean glass, to allow the sun's rays to always reach those within. There is one main hall, with rows of cushions inside for kneeling in prayer, and then two sections of similar stone juts out from each side of the building, creating the shape of a 't' if looking down from above. One of the rooms is the private chambers of the Priestess, and the other contains the purging ray of the sun.
Come inside, let me brighten your day.
