Taken Legend

Summary

In the city of Kymenos and surrounding villages, there is a legend about a rare comet that is whispered between townsfolk. This legend claims that every 137 years a chosen person is lured to the Viridis Pyle by the mysterious force of the comet into the forest, never to be seen again.The person taken is seemingly random within the Kymenos region.

Due to the time between disappearance and the singular victim, by the time the next cycle happens majority of the average villagers regard this as no more than a local story made up to explain otherwise criminal or shameful truths to missing family members.

Variations & Mutation

The reason for this occurring, how people are chosen, and if you can prevent it/methods of prevention vary from town to town and cycle to cycle.

Reasons have included:

• The Gods are doing it

• The Gods are taking bad people

• The Gods are taking good people

• The Gods are taking the closest person

• Its not the Gods its something evil

• That is taking good people

• That is taking bad people

• Its the forest itself, feeding its magic.

Prevention:

• If you keep everyone together in groups, no one can be taken. (Attempted third cycle, unknown results, no records of missing person in region.)
• If you deny it bad things will happen. (writings from 4th cycle have inconclusive reports of 2 missing persons, at great distance to each other, neither can be proven to from the comet)
• If you have volunteers, they will chose one of them. (5th cycle proves this to be false, women not among volunteers reported missing by husband. Volunteers still seen at 6th cycle.)
