Anchor Star

The Anchor Star is a celestial object that has been recognized since prehistoric times. Reference have been found in early cave paintings. Eilea's pole stars appear to remain unmoving because of the planet's rotation, however the Anchor Star is an artificial object in a geosynchronous high orbit. Early astronomers quickly determined the Anchor Star was not a star, but a large object colored a reflective green, roughly cylindrical with irregular bulges at various points along its length. Better telescopes revealed groups of writing at various points similar to the panels on the Khitim Stele. The knowledge that an artificial object existed above Eilea inspired early space race amongst the branded families, and a first unmanned probe was launched toward the Anchor Star in 1948 CE by a combined venture of the Falcon and Eagle families. The families watched as first all telemetry transmissions were lost, then a beam weapon of some sort sliced the probe in half. As space travel and sensors improved, experiments determined the Anchor Star emitted controlled EMP bursts directed at approaching objects, followed by dissection when object came with in 1/2 mile.

Geography

The Anchor Star has a consistent outer shell composed of an unknown makeup, but it reflective green in color and highly polished. Nearly 3 miles in length and a quarter mile in diameter, it was thought originally landing on the surface would be relatively easy, before the defense measures were discovered. There are irregular "hills" at various locations around the length of the main cylinder. The ends are rounded. The blocks of writing appear at various locations. There are no doors, ports, windows, antennae or any other indicators of function.

Fauna & Flora

The surface of the Anchor Star is devoid of any type of flora or fauna.

Natural Resources

While it is evident there are resources of some kind that would be available if attainable, at this time it is unknown what those resources might be. Efforts to determine the makeup of the shell by various remote means have to date been unsuccessful.

History

The Anchor Star has been known since prehistoric times. When it was determined approach and local exploration would be difficult, The Anchor Star became a celestial curiosity except for the more militant branded families who wanted to control the Anchor Star's offensive and defensive technology. When the Khitim Stele was discovered and determined to be the terrestrial geographical reference for the geosynchronous orbit, the Anchor Star suddenly became an object of interest to brand scholars around the globe and cries went out for renewed efforts for manned missions to the Anchor Star.

Tourism

While brand scholars would love the opportunity for exploratory missions to the Anchor Star, at this point in history tourism is not possible.
