The Ambassadors

The Ambassadors was group of silver tongues in olden days that would cross the continent carrying oral history. The organization is rumored to still exist in small groups throughout the continent, though no proof of their existence or of the silver tongue gift has surfaced. The gift and the group began to wither during the Delta Wars, a massive war that took place a few hundred years ago when the Tattan River and its tributaries were suffering a drought and the four northern countries went to war (Tole, Midden, Atta, and Geld, Holton had actually succeeded from Geld during this war, pulling some of their forces away from the main fight) over the water source. Why the gift and the organization began to wither during the Delta Wars is still a topic of debate among academics.

Purpose

The Ambassadors self-declared purpose was to share history and culture through stories throughout the continent. Many reports, however, have The Ambassadors down as an information network, many of the Ambassador members working closely with rulers, rebellion leaders, and heroes throughout history. Many official reports, on the other hand, still mark them as performers as that was their primary purpose.

Myths around the Ambassadors revolve around their story telling. There are volumes upon volumes upon collections of recorded Ambassador stories, incomplete things that will never be as full as viewing a performance by a Silver Tongue. Stories of Heroes. Stories of Souls journeys. Love Stories. War Stories. But most spoken of are Magic Stories, stories spread about humans able to access magic as intended by the Souls before the Barrier Mountains were raised. These stories and story collections are highly sought after for personal collections and research. The validity of humans being able to use magic, considered a higher level of gifts by the Temple and academics throughout the continent, is a constant topic of debate, largely put down to something unachievable by humans.

Membership

The Ambassadors were the largest gift-based organization on the continent, comprising of most, if not all silver tongues in recorded history. They would branch out on occasion to take members of related gifts, such as Wordsmiths, Tellers, and Memories. These gifts, however, never took higher offices throughout The Ambassadors and required heavy training before being allowed to perform. Memories were the most common gift taken in after Silver Tongues and held the highest offices possible by non-Silver Tongues, leading credence to The Ambassadors a hidden role as an information network.

How Are They Seen Today

Since the disappearance of The Ambassadors during the Delta Wars, they appear in the public consciousness as a legend. If a ruler or hero come forth with more information than they theoretically should, there are often accompanied whispers of the resurgence of the group. If a strong gift arises, whispers of the Magic Stories told by The Ambassadors begin to circulate.

Beyond the rumors, The Ambassadors left their mark in theaters they built and ran around the continent. These buildings still stand and are used by performance troupes throughout the continent that do their best to pay respect to The Ambassadors.

Silver Tongue Gift

A Silver Tongue gift, as defined by the Temple, is a performance based gift. Those with the gift are able to weave images with their words. Different Silver Tongues have been recorded to be able to affect different senses: Sight, Smell, Hearing, Touch, and Taste. The most common sense affected is sight, most silver tongues are able to weave illusions through stories, making them one-man performances able to put on full plays or productions by telling a story. Only the strongest Silver Tongues are able to affect all five at once, completely, for multiple people. The Strength of the gift can be measured by how many people it affects, how many senses it can mimic, on what scale, and for how long. There are Silver Tongues of legend able to enchant entire towns, and theories that some of the big events of the past that have no physical evidence were merely illusions created by Silver Tongues. Even more based in legend are Silver Tongues able to truly call things into being, rather than just illusion, with their words.
